How long would you say pin collecting/trading has been "a big thing"

Just wondering, since we've gotten so interested in the pins and are heading to Disney soon...I'm just wondering how long this has been really big. I'm thinking about the Beanie Baby craze, and all that darn money I spent on Pokemon cards that my son doesn't even look at anymore, and I'm trying to gauge if this will be more of a passing trend or something that will stick around.

I know no one knows for sure, but any thoughts? Also, if this has been going on for five years, then that's a better bet than one year!!

Thanks!!

Sharon

Well Disney Pins have been around a long time... But he craze tha is going on now (and seems as strong as ever) started in the Fall of 1999...

Hi,

Many people have been collecting Disney pins for a long time. We have pins that go back to WDW's 20th anniversary. The only difference is pin trading became officially "sanctioned" by Disney with the Countdown to the Millenium series and the advent of pin trading at the park. That made more people aware of the hobby and thus, gave it more publicity. It seems like pin trading will always be around. Just MHO.....

The pins are more for me than my son. He does like Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Goofy, and Donald, but I go for the princesses. :) But I hear you on the Pokemon cards! My son informed me that he wanted us to have a garage sale and he would sell his! I nearly chocked knowing what I spent on those things!
