I am trying to plan our AK day. I had hoped to get Tusker House at 10 or 10:30, but the latest I could get (for breakfast) was 9:45. I had planned to Rope Drop Safari. Will we have time?

KS is 22 minutes, but I don't know how long it will take to get there, get on, get off, and get to Tusker House.

Unless there is an animal intervention. We once had an hour+ safari. Lots of "deer" on the road playing chicken so we sat .... and sat .... and very happy our jeep was in shade. And fun because we were there in middle of standoff - would have been bummer to be way back not knowing what was up. They finally brought out CM who couldn't get them to move until he brought in food.

It seems that if you have something planned that's when the animals decide to stop traffic.

DD wanted to ride the safari for a second time I thought no big deal we have an hour until the last showing of Lion King.

One of the animals decided to lay in the road for a very long while and we just made it into Lion King.

I've been on this ride about ten times and never had a problem before but was never pressed for time either

We did the Safari at close to rope drop mid week 3 weeks ago, and it was the most animals we've seen in the 5 times we've been there over the past 15 years or so.

Go have dinner one night at Saana, or a drink at AK Lodge, we saw many animals there as well, and at dusk it's very nice.

Once at RD we did KS. One lion was perched high on the rocks and just roared and roared for what seemed like forever. The driver just sat there because it was awesome. So, you never really know.

We rope drop the Safari every AK visit and typically are walking out around 9:30am. Plan to be at the rope early, say around 8:15, to get near the front of the crowd.

As others have noted there is a small risk that the Safari takes a bit longer if an animal blocks the road. We have had that happen including one time when a giraffe blocked our way and then slowly walked quite a way down the road before veering off. It added about 5 minutes to the trip.
