This is our first trip to DW and we will go back to AK another day during the week if we need to....but how long should it take to tour this park?

Dh, me, 10 yr dd, 8 yr dd, 2 yr ds :grouphug:

I was thinking we could hit this park early, go back to the resort for swim and nap and then go to MGM for parade at 5 pm then fantasmic dinner pkg. Is this too much for one day?

Thanks so much :sunny:

We just got back from WDW last week and spent Wednesday at AK. I had been there before so I didn't have to see every attraction. However, we rode the Safari ride, rode the Dinosaur ride, spent some time at Chester and Hesters, watched It's Tough To Be A Bug, saw both the Tarzan and Lion King stage shows and spent a pretty relaxing lunch at Flametree BBQ. We arrived about 20 minutes after opening and left about 2 hours before the park closed, so we really could have seen and done more. AK used to be considered a 1/2 day park but I would plan on spending the better part of a day or like you said, go back a second day.

One tip I would suggest, go on the Safari ride first thing in the morning before the crowds build. Plus the animals will be more active and you'll be able to see more of them.

Enjoy.

We went for the first time in April. We were there from opening until about 2.My kids loved it(they are 9,7,6,1)and I wish we had more time there. :wave2:

AK is my favorite park, but I can't stay here for more than 3 or 4 hours at a time -- I just get too hot!!

The first time that we were there we planned on spending the whole day and we were done by 3:00. However, we were there at a slow time of year and we didn't stay for the parade. This last time we went later in the day and stayed for the parade. Am I glad that we did. The parade is different from the other parks parades and it is fun. Also, I think that on our next trip we will plan to spend a whole day there so that we can do everything since it has been 5 years since we have done that.

Enjoy!

We went for the first time in May on a Tuesday and stayed for the entire day including about 1.5 hours of evening EMH (which was empty even though the day was extremely crowded).

It really depends on you.

If what you want to do is see the major attractions - you go during a non crowded time, hit the park at opening, use a few Fastpasses - get through the Safari, FotLK, ITTBAB, Dinosaur, and Kali - you might manage to keep this the "half day park" some people believe it to be, getting out around 1:00.

If you take some time to see the bird show, walk the Asia and Africa trails, greet some characters, talk to some cast members about the animals, go out to Planet Watch), have a beer in that lovely bar in Harambe, do the "smaller rides" and some of the main attractions twice and spend an hour while the kids play in the Boneyard, you will wonder where two days went.

We only spent a 1/2 or 3/4 day there- in the am. Saw most of the big stuff we wanted to see except the shows (Lion king etc.). It can get humid in the afternoon because of all the vegetation, so many people leave early.

We weren't impressed with AK the first time, but my sister and I have since been back and really enjoyed it much more the second time around and we plan to spend a full day (split up- two different mornings) on our December trip.
