Oh yes. Jan/Feb is a slow DVC time other than the race weekend and maybe holidays. You'd have no problems getting something there sometime during those months.

Assuming you buy March 15, it takes about 30-60 days to close and load points for you to book

Thus, you would be booking around May or even June for a Jan/Feb stay at SSR and considering that is usually the last resort to get booked, you are in good shape.

Probably not, unless you buy direct and make it a stipulation of the purchase that they find you a villa at AKV.

I would say the odds are pretty good to get SSR, OKW, AKV in that order of easy to hard. But Thanksgiving does book up pretty fast, but you should have a 6 month window to book.

Sure. You can generally get into SSR well within the 7 months. If you bought now, you'd be complete right around 7 months out for Thanksgiving. If you bought AK, and you were staying AK, I'd try to buy ASAP and hope to complete by 7 months out so you can get in before it opens to everyone. If you do, you'll be fine. If you wait a few weeks, you'll miss your opportunity to have your points by 4/20, or whenever you'd need them to be outside of 7 months from arrival. Murphy's law would have it that if you need them fast your contract will pass slow tho. At least mine did, but I still got my desired room at BLT at around a week under 7 months so it worked out!

Here's how long it has taken me so far-

1 day offer accepted.
10 days to pass ROFR.
13 days to get Estoppel.
2 days for me to sign contracts and wire money.
So so far it has taken nearly a month. Now I am waiting for the other side to sign contracts and closing. I hope that may take around a week.
I understand once closed I may be able to get my member ID by calling up in about 10 days, otherwise you wait about 2-4 weeks for the letter.
So realistically at the moment if things go very quick, I think you can wrap the thing up in around 45 days from the start. However, 60 days may be a realistic target.
As others have said you will have no problem finding somewhere for next January. If you wanted a 1 bedroom, at 7 months out the data shows that you could likely book virtually any resort 1 bed for Jan- studios more difficult but there will be availability. If you get going beginning of March, you should have your points by mid May, assuming not ROFR. I would then recommend immediately booking your home resort, and if you do want to try somewhere else, bang on 7 months out log on and try to switch.
If you do fancy staying somewhere else other than home resort in Jan, you need to have obtained your points by no later than begging of June so you can be on right at the opening of the 7 month window, so you need to get buying in March. A ROFR could throw a real spanner in the works as it will delay you by around 2 weeks, even if you manage to find another contract quickly. However, if you want to stop SSR or OKW or AKV it will not be so crucial to have that 7 month window- you will likely be OK around 4 months out at one of these.

I think that with resale, 30 days would be a very short close. Sixty to ninety between offer ACCEPTANCE and being able to book is what I would plan on. And I wouldn't count on Thanksgiving availability if you haven't yet made an offer. Thanksgiving is a vacation people plan and then tend to stick to.

Note that some people have to make several offers before they get offer acceptance. That can add a week or longer (depending on how picky you are) to the process.
