How long does it take?

My DH and I saw the presentation last August but did not have the down payment at the time. Well we are planning on a vaction this Auguast and were going to bring down the down Payment then. BUT we were thinking, if we are joining why pay for a double vacation. If we start the process now, is there any chance of being able to use our point in late August or is that not enought time to close and all! Thanks for the help.

If you do it now, you should be closed and can make a reservation in time for your August vacation. I would do it now as it will be a lot cheaper then to go down to purchase and pay all that money to stay as a regular resort guest. I am trying to think of what your UY will be, but I am guessing that it would be November. I would ask your guide for information on that. I say go for it though. When my family joined last August, we received a March UY and we could almost use our points immediately.

My understanding from when I called was that you can put $500 down via credit card and make reservations the very same day. They will send the contract to you to sign and send in your final payment. That of course is through Disney Direct. You would have point right away. Call your guide on Monday.

Let me clarify my comments. You would have your points almost immediately, but you would get a UY, meaning that is when you would get your next year points. You would have them for your August vacation.

You actually wouldn't pay for a double vacation. If they're still doing it the way when we bought. We were staying at CBR when we decided to buy. They gave us $1500 off the price and considered that our first year. if they're still doing that the 1500 could be the down payment

You will have to pay a downpayment of at least 10%. It could be more, depending on certain factors. They will give you points from a previous year (2005 probably) to use right away. You will have access to 2006 points as well. Once you make that downpayment, you can make reservations right away. I would definately go that route. You should have no problem getting something at Saratoga Springs for August. You may even be able to get in somewhere else. Saratoga almost always has something available.

If you talk to your guide, you should have no problem for a late august vacation. I am not sure about points, but if they are selling as an example, dec. use year, you should get dec. 2005 points now and be able to use dec. 2006 if needed. goodluck.

I purchased resale and will probably have to wait 6 or 7 weeks until I can reservations. Given your comments about being able to almost always get Saratoga, how hard do you think it will be to get for Christmas week at that time (mid June)?

You want a UY later in the calendar. If you take a Mar or Apr UY you won't get 2005 points! If you take a June UY you won't be able to bank and the 2005 points will expire before your trip. I'd shoot for Sep UY or later.

They are giving out 2005 points still. I think they are probably selling UY later in the year now though to accomodate this. They have it figured out somehow to make it work just perfectly. Also, as a new owner, you are not held to the same banking rules as members. You will be able to bank all your points, even if you are past the deadline.

As far as Christmas week, I think it might be a little difficult anywhere at this point. It is the most popular time of the year to go to WDW and for DVC. I wish you luck. You can always go on the wait list. People have had those come through.
