How long does it take you to get to WDW?

I live in edinburgh, Scotland.

I leave my home at 1200uk time (EST +5) and drive to Edinburgh Airport. Catch a flight to london. Stay overnight in london airport hotel (no direct flights to the world from Edinburgh) Catch the 1130 virgin flight to MCO. Arrive at 1630 EST. Wait about an hour to get through immigration. another 30 mins on luggage and car hire then another 30mins or so dirve to WDW. Get there about 1900hrs.

So in total its about 36hrs. I'm not alone. A goodly number of fellow brits have this journey.

Like Poggs, we live in Scotland (Dundee) where there are no direct flights. So we have a two hour drive to the airport in Scotland before the overnight in London....

36 hours later, "Welcome Home"

30 minutes to the airport..
45 minutes wait at the airport..
2 hrs in the air
1 hr transport to WDW.

4 hrs 15 minutes door to door.:goodvibes :cool1:

From Port Jeff to Islip 20 min.
Arrival time before flight 90 min.
Flight time 2hr 20 min.
Bags/rental car 30 min
Drive from MCO with stop at Publix 40 min.

Grand Total: 5hrs. 20min:thumbsup2

You got to love Islip airport :thumbsup2
about the same time for me I live in East Islip

12-13 hours if we drive

7-8 hrs if we fly (including drive time to airport parking, pre-arrival time at airport, flight time, time to get luggage and car and get to resort from MCO)

We fly from Boston or Manchester NH, about a three hour flight.

Dennis-

We usually fly and it is a non stop flight that takes 2 hours, 15 minutes. We have not driven in several years, but the best time we made when driving was 12 1/2 hours and that was just stopping for gas twice and no other stops.

Drive it; first day usually 800+ from southernmost NY to Florence or Hilton Head SC so then second day is under 6 hours to WDW. On northbound trip we usually like to reach Rocky Mount, NC but sometimes find we are too tired to get an early start out of WDW so many times call it a day when we reach Florence SC.

We usually drive and it takes around 14 hours straight through including breaks. We have flown several times but with DD, 2, it is better having our own car and being on our own schedule. I like being able to leave the world on our time. We do the drive down I95 which anyone who has driven it before knows can be a parking lot through Baltimore and DC. Our solution to this is. DH takes off work and sleeps all day before we leave. Then DS and I pack the car and wake DH up around 9pm. We eat a late dinner and head out at around 10pm. DD falls asleep quickly and DH can drive in peace and quiet. It usually isn't until GA that we really wake up and then the trip isn't too bad.

We :drive: 16 hrs. straight through. Leave around 8:00 p.m. and arrive 1:00 p.m. (time zone change). If we fly, 1 hr to airport, 1.5 hrs security check, 2 hrs 15 min flight, 1hr to get to room.

30 Minutes to Airport
45 Minutes early
PVD to MCO non-stop 3 Hours
Airport to Disney - 45 minutes to include getting bags.
Arriving at Disney no matter what happened along the way, Priceless.
Total price is 1384.

Someone mentioned the train in an earlier post. I looked to see how long it would take and the cost from RI to Orlando:

Total time: 26 1/2 hours going down. Return trip is just over 25 hours.
Cost for 5 coach tickets: 885.15
Cost for 2 sleeper cars (hold 2 each. You need to purchase 1 adult coach ticket and cram the third child in) from NY - Orl: 2473.60

While the train still holds a special place in my heart, they need to something about their fares. Why would anyone who does not mind to fly ever choose the train over flying longer distances? A savings of 1089.60, and arrive same day. Not only that, Amtrak needs to get faster trains. They have them in other countries, and don't come back with Acela. Acela only services the North East, and cannot go near as fast as it should be able to. This is do to several factors. Now, if we had trains like in Japan that go 125mph, then we would be talking business.

No matter where you live - IT'S TOOOOO, TOOOOOOO LONG!!!!!!!!!

Regina

Really we live between Dallas and Tyler, Texas but I can't remember exactly how long - approximately 20 to drive vs. a 2 to 2.5 hr. flight.
