How long does it take to see Hollywood Studios?

one day for us. Mine like to see the shows like the stunt cars and Indy. add into that mix a few rides- it does take the whole day..

If you just care about rides..it is a half day park. I always think when people say that about this or AK it is because they don't bother with the shows.

If you want to see all the shows too, you will be hard pressed to do it all in a day. We just managed last year from 9 AM to 8:00 PM fantasmic, except didn't see the Sounds Dangerous and the Animation Building. Also didn't spend much time on autographs.

Can someone please tell me where the new toy story ride is located in the park? I looked at the map on the wdw website and didn't see it. DH and I will be there in October and I want to get over to it and get fastpasses before they are gone.

Toy Story Mania location...hopefully Robo will come along with one of his fabulous maps...but meanwhile, if you veer to the right around the Sorcerer's Hat, heading down towards Little Mermaid, then keep going past One Man's Dream & the Narnia exhibit, then the last building on the right is Toy Story Mania. Basically, it's behind the big part of the Great Movie Ride building.

To OP, you could do HS in 1/2 day if you're only trying for a few rides, but no shows. And no stopping for parades of HS Musical performance, or character meet & greets.

Must say, though, the shows are very good. The street entertainers are entertaining.

We went on the Backlot Tour in May 2008. They still do that part at the beginning showing how they edit together sound & action & out of sequence filming (where they have the WW II fight on the battleship with water cannons & such.) Then you walked through props storage & costuming areas...seemed like that was the same as before. Then onto the trams for the drive through the backlot (this part was much shorter...I think they took out some of the houses that used to on that tour?) Then the Catastrophe Canyon sequence. I thought it was still entertaining, but hadn't seen it for a few years, so maybe I'm forgetting how much better it used to be?

Having read through this thread, I now have a question (hope the OP doesn't mind me horning in!)

If we're mostly planning to see shows, do we need to break our necks to get there at rope drop? I haven't ever seen a sample show schedule, though a PP mentioned that Beauty & the Beast usually doesn't have a show until around noon.

If we're there at rope-drop, but don't really plan to do any of the big rides, what should we aim for first? Muppetvision 3D?

It sounds like we might have to wait until later in the morning for Little Mermaid, the HSM show, etc.

We can usually see everything we want if we get there at rope drop and stay until about 2:30 (this includes a lunch at Sci-Fi).

The things we hit are:
ToT
RnR
Muppet 3-D
Backlot Tour
Star Tours
Great Movie Ride
One daytime show like Indiana or the Stunt Show
(now that TSM has opened, we'll try for that)

We leave for a few hours and come back around 7:00 for a CS dinner if we haven't eaten yet and get in line for Fantasmic!

Good luck!

If you want to see ALL the shows and attractions(plus time for lunch and dinner), you will not be able to do it in one day. 1-1/2 days maybe, if you utilize FP and the crowds aren't huge.

Is it necessary to arrive at Hollywood Studios at rope drop in order to see the entire park before Fantasmic? Looking at my map the park does not look very big. We will be there in early June. Thanks.

Yes. Even at that it might not be possible to see everything due to conflicting show times. But do you really want to see Sounds Dangerous anyway? ;)

This is our plan too. Except no RnR but TSM in it's place and we won't do the Indy or LMA. We have lunch for 1pm. Could we get this all in before 1pm lunch?

Thank You!! DH will be too weighed down from eating and will probably get a cramp if he has to rush before the line gets long and the passes are gone :rotfl: . Now I can run ahead and get passes for the both of us since I know where I am going.

DH and I get there at 11:00 a.m. which is great because we get to sleep in which you can never do on a Disney vacation. We have lunch at the Brown Derby and we are done with everything by 6:00 p.m. It's a great park - it can easily be done in half a day. Have fun!

You're welcome...actually, I found one of the threads Robo posted his map on...hope this link works for you:

Done with "everything" or done with "everything you want to see"? Big difference and misleading to someone who has never been to DHS before.

We have never really attempted to do everything when we have gone to MGM (now DHS). There are a number of factors to consider, like the time of year (how busy) and if you have younger children. We have been there twice. Once when my DS was 18 months and again when he was 3. We did not make it there when he was 5 last year. When he was 3, we only lasted an about an hour before he had a MAJOR meltdown, due to Disney overload. :rolleyes1
We do plan on going to DHS when in WDW next March with DS6 and DS2. Hopefully, we will be able to do more things this time around. Enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

For me personally if it was just the rides I'd be done and ready to leave in a hour or so. But I enjoy the Street performers. (sorry I know they have a name but I don't remember how to spell it) plus the parade. I could spend the whole day watching just that. But DDs love the rides so I have to wait for them when they are on them. Now they have Toy Story attraction so I am looking forward to seeing that. And of course let us not forget Fantasmic!

We do "everything" except:

1. The Tower of Terror;
2. Star Tours
2. High School Musical; and
3. Block Party Bash

Wouldn't want to "mislead" anyone. . . . .

How long do you have to wait stand-by for TSM if you're not getting there until after 11:00 A.M.? Or have you found that there are still FastPasses available? Do you FP rock n rollercoaster? How do you fit in Indy, Mermaid, & Beauty & the Beast shows between 11 & 6, especially taking time out for a sit-down meal for lunch...we've never been able to see more than 2 shows in a day there because it always seems like the schedules overlap too much...very frustrating. What's your secret?

We usually spend a little over 1/2 day there. Then go back another day to ride Rockin rollercoaster:banana:
But the only attractions we do there are:
Rockin R
Great Movie Ride
Muppets
Star Tours
Backlot tour
But now, since Toy Story Mania is added, we will probably go a full day and do it and tower of terror---my sons finally say they will ride it:goodvibes

But the OP wanted to know if they could see everything. I don't think you can do all the rides, see all the shows, the parade, meet the characters and fit in eat a couple of times in less than a full day, especially if you want to do TSM. For those of us who've been before and know what we do and don't want to do, it's totally different.
