You know it IS gumbo weather today. I just checked out the Orlando weather and it is 32 deg and "feels like" 24. It better warm up, and QUICK.

We had gumbo this weekend. I would like some today. It sure is gumbo weather. I saw the temp in Orlando this morning too. WOW. I hope its not that cold when we go.

Faron cooks it with a spicy cajun seasoning called "Slap ya mama". It depends on who makes it. Sometimes Faron makes his so spicy you sweat when you eat it. They serve it at Brennan's school and it is not spicy at all the kindergarteners eat it. I have a little cajun cook book that tells you how to make alot of the things we eat here. I need to get another one and send it to you sometime.

I love "Slap Ya Mama". I grew up in Maine and my dad has a friend there that knows the people or person who invented Slap ya Mama. The person in Maine has a smoked meat business and he sells it. The people in LA gave him permission to package it and sell in Maine. I live in Nebraska now and my parents bring me out some when I need it. My 3yo dd likes to sprinkle it out on the table and lick it up if I forget it and leave it in her reach. Also could you post the recipe for Gumbo. It sounds soooo yummy.

I have to go check Courtney out of school. When I get back I will post the recipe. She drove to school but I still have to wake up the baby and go out in the cold to sign her out. I am not happy.

This is one of my favorite things to do. My kids have gotton so used to it they warn their friends before anyone comes over. "Don't pay any attention to my dad, he is just weird"

For Mardi Gras we have something around here for the season called King Cake. It is sooooooooooo yummy and we have to get it while we can because it will be gone until next year. Yesterday I took Courtney to the doctor. She has a sinus, throat and ear infection. When we went to the store to fill her prescription we found these babies.

Individual size king cake. YUM OOOOO We had to get us each one. I shared with Grace. You can get them plain or filled. We go bavarian cream. I also like strawberry cream cheese. It is like a filled cinnamon roll. When you buy a big king cake it comes with a little plastic baby. It is a tradition to hide the baby in the cake and who ever gets the piece of cake with the baby hidden in it has to buy the next king cake.

It is also the beginning of crawfish season here. I can't wait to eat some good boiled crawfish.

This is a picture of what it looks like, in case you are wondering. If you ever come to Louisiana come during crawfish season. You won't be sorry.

I bought Brennan some travel size Axe body spray at Target.

I ordered Brennan some pins to trade. I got them from . I didn't get to pick them out but it doesn't matter. He is just going to trade them anyway. I got ten.

Here is a link I found for a gumbo recipe. I never made roux in the microwave before. The roux is the tricky part. I use jar roux. I also add fresh pork sausage cut up to our gumbo.

I hope you are successful with it. If you make your own roux be careful it burns easy. You have to stir it constantly until it is done.

Oh noooo. It was about 150' from the house and you can't see in those pics but I did have a fire truck about 75' from the fire. I belong to to VFD out here so I don't burn something that big without alot of water handy. When it gets that big we have a few friends over and have a wennie roast and roast marshmallows,,,and maybe an adult beverage or two
