How long do you have to activiate a Universal annual pass?

If I buy an annual pass today, can I hang on to it for use a year or more from now? (In other words, I wouldn't activate it for quite some time.) I've pre-bought tickets before, but this would be my first time getting APs, so I'm not sure if the rules are different.

I don't think we're going to make it back to Universal until early 2017, but I know we will be going back multiple times that year and that I want all 6 of us to have annual passes. I thought it might "hurt" my wallet a little less if I just bought 1 or 2 at a time over the next year as the funds were available, but just want to make sure there isn't an expiration date or time limit on how long you can hold on to an annual pass before you active it.

Thanks!

I don't believe there is a deadline, just like tickets.

Unless it's part of some promotion I think Damo's right that unactivated A/P's are good forever. I purchased a power pass and because of changes in plans didn't get to activate it for several years.

so true and the same for day tickets/passes.

i bought tickets back in 1999 for my kids as i had the ap.

last year had the son use a day ticket from that bunch i bought and it was still valid.

back of my tickets state expiration is 2030.
