If I have 150 points and I only use 75t this year. The other 75 will be banked, but for how long????

One year. The points you bank will expire at the end of your next use year. You can only bank points once.

And, should you decide you need them this year, you cannot "unbank" them. BUt you can borrow from the next year.

Keep in mind that you should use those first for any reservation next year. That way, if you don't use all of next UY's points, you can still bank those! :thumbsup2

For a simple explanation of banking and borrowing, see pages 46 and 47 of your current DVC vacation planner.

This brings up something I've been wondering. Can you designate which points you use for a reservation? For instance, if I bank points in year 1, can I use those points first in year 2, and then bank year 2's points into year 3 and so on until I use them all up? I'm through ROFR but have not closed yet so I don't yet have the packet from Disney to review.

Thanks for the help -

Yes to your question - I was doing exactly that until extratripitis caught up with me and now I'm in the borrowing mode. I always tell the CM which points I want to use for the reservation just in case they may not be as up on it as they should be. The last reservations I have made the CM repeated back to me all the details including which points were used and how many of each were left. May you have many wonderful DVC stays

Yes you got it.

I too have a question on "reassigning" points once a reservation has been made. When making an October ressie, I used BW points from the 2006 year. I also made a ressie for November and exceeded my 2006 points on this one so I borrowed 35 from the 07 year.

I may end up having to canceling my November ressie and would like to apply the borrowed 07 points toward the October ressie (and save my 06 points for banking)

The person at MS indicated that this could be done, but not until I had canceled the November ressie. She indicated that she could not just switch them around.

Any one else experience this or have any advice? I would really like to hold on to the November ressie the latest that I can (without penalty) in case we end up being able to go.

In my experience, the MS CM gave you correct information.

When is your use year and how many points do you have? Until the end of the ninth month after your use year begins, you can bank up to 25% of your annual allotment.

Assuming you haven't banked any of your 2006 points yet, if you have at least 140 points on your contract, you can bank all 35 of those points right up until 31 days prior to arrival - even if you have a February use year.

You wouldn't want to wait any longer than that anyway if you aren't sure you can go, because if you cancel less than 31 days prior to arrival, the points will go into the holding account. Once that happens the points can't be banked and there will be other restrictions on using those points.

This is once per year right?

I took the comment to mean that once you bank the points into the next year you cannot then bank them again into another year if you don't use them. I do not know if you can bank points in increments such as if you have an Aug use year and must bank by the end of Jan to bank 100% but you decide to only bank 25% then. Later you find out you can't use all the remaining points and want to bank another 25% by the deadline to bank 50% of your point total I would think you can do this but am not 100% certain. That would be two banking transactions in one year.

You can bank points anytime provided the number falls within the current banking window percentage.

You could call tomorrow and bank 1 point, then call the next day and bank 1 more point, and on the 3rd day call and bank another point. (An exageration for sure, but just to help explain)

What you said in your example is correct. If during the 100% window you only banked 25% of your points, then during the 50% window you could bank another 25% for a total of 50% banked.

However if you banked 25% during either the 100% or 50% windows first, then during the 25% window you couldn't bank any more since the amount already banked was 25%, which is the cumulative banking total for the 25% window.

Hope this helps.

Hi all, I was wondering if you could be so kind as to help me out on a question I have. I checked the members website and it appears that I can borrow points from 2009. Does anyone know if this is true? How far ahead can I borrow points from? Thank you so much for any help given. :wave2:

If your use year is early in the year (Jan -Apr), then you will be getting 07 points next year. You are using 06 points now. You could use your 07 and borrow 08 points for a reservation in Jan or up until June 07. You wouldn't be able to use the 09 points for a year. You could borrow them to make a reservation during your 08 use year.

You may only borrow points to make a reservation. So if you are making a reservation at a DVC resort, the earliest you can borrow is 11 months prior to your desired check out date. (On Monday, the earliest DVC reservation you can make would be for 6/16/07) And as Deb & Bill already posted, you may only borrow from one use ahead. So you may not borrow any of your 2009 points right now unless you are using them to make a reservation that falls within your 2008 use year.

However, are you planning a cruise? If so, check with MS - now that members are allowed to make cruise resrevations sooner than 11 months prior to departure, you may be able to borrow more than one use year ahead for that.

Best wishes -
