Hey everyone,
I am really late to the game with college. I have been taking a few classes here and there at the community college in my area, but I never really knew which direction to go, so I never took much in fear of "making the wrong choice, and wasting a ton of money"

I'm now ready to follow my heart and have decided what I want to go to college for.

The problem is, my husband just got word that we are going to be transferred to Orlando in November. Does anyone know how long I have to live in Florida before I can get in-state tutition?

I emailed UCF, but they sent back a generic response and it gave transfer info, but didn't really answer my question.

Thanks!

Oh I can answer this question - my daughter is an out of state student at UCF and I thought I understood the process but then at orientation I had a opportunity to talk to the Registrar - I can't remember his name but he was very funny and very helpful.

Let me see if I can find the web page with the exact directions. It is not easy to obtain in state tuition - and certainly not as easy as it used to be. Many students will tell you you just have to do this or that but there are 14 points that have to be proven. The very first thing is to get an in state driver's license, car registration and voter's registration because the license (or ID) has to be in place one year. You also need to let UCF know one year in advance that you are establishing residency.

Ok here is a general page about it

I know there is a more specific one - let me dig a little deeper.

Here is the actual form:
http://registrar.ucf.edu/forms/residency_reclassification/residency_reclassification.pdf

You will see it requires you include your tax forms and I know they said you have to show you are in FL to live (not to go to school) and that you are totally self supporting. I see you are married so this process should just take you the one full year versus the longer time it might take a student just out of high school. So if you are moving there in November of 2009 and get busy getting the steps in line you should be able to register for the Spring 2011 semester as an in state student.

Good luck!
Liz
