To buy air fare?

Trying to gather some info on others experiences, have set up flight alerts etc for dummy dates as ours aren't even released but want to know how late people have left it before and still found a price they were happy with, including indirect.

Tia :thumbsup2

the latest I ever left it was 3 months and I got the ridiculous price of £320 flying out on 22 August ( I remember as it was my birthday lol) this was indirect flying with united, I have never seen a price like that in August since ( or before possibly) we got lucky!

Would all depend on time of year, how long I wanted to go and how flexible I was.

Usually we go in school hols so I like to book as soon as I find a deal, sometimes its 11 months out sometimes it 2 months out.

If I wasn't tied to school hols and I wanted a std 7 or 14 night trip I would book a few days before, eg you can go with Thomsons this month for £238pp for 14 nights http://flights.thomson.co.uk/thomso...=0&duration=0&destA=SFB&destB=none&destC=none

Yes we booked two weeks out in April and all was great we got direct flights for £213 pp :thumbsup2

Booked in Jan for flights in May and August for flights in November, £420 and £390 direct each.

i just booked 2 days ago for mid-October.
There was a glitch in the system, that i missed.

I saw it, didn't realize it was a glitch, handed it over to my TA to take care of the next day, but by then the glitch had been fixed.

but it's still a pretty good price.

but i think if i were flying by myself, i would leave it to the very last second and just get onto whatever plane was flying - well...not any plane....there are certain really cheap airlines i wont get on, but other than those...

Usually leave it till about 5 weeks before the date I want to fly. For 8th October this year just booked on Thurdsay - £416 each.

Did a last minute trip in July and booked the flights 3 days before we flew and didnt save much - £457 each .

We had a really spontanious trip to the world in May after seeing if we could sell a load of things and make the money! we did and booked the holiday 6 weeks before and left the flights 2 weeks before! Got a great deal too, but was quite scary leaving it til the last minute!:goodvibes

Thanks for the replies :thumbsup2

It's both helpful and interesting for a first timer to see. I'd like to try to do a last minute trip after this next one and it's good to see what can be done :)

2 days booked on a Friday evening and left on the Sunday :) we paid just over €300 but that was in 2006 i think.... Most times I book a few months in advance. I booked Dublin to NYC a couple of years ago for myself and hubby a few day in advance and got both flights for €298 wish I still could get them that cheap lol

Great deal :) yea I tend to get good deals from Dublin. I also like that a lot of flight pre clear customs and immigration here.
