How late can dining be added to a reservation?

Friends are going to WDW on Nov 21. They're still contemplating adding the dining plan. When do they have to decide by? I swear I remember reading somewhere it was 5 days before trip. Could they add it at check-in?

A dining plan MUST be added no later than 72 hours before check-in.

other point...it has to be a room package: meaning they have to be buying room and at least one day ticket per person in their room to add the dining plan. As PP said, cannot add within 72 hours of check-in.

Also, they should try to get the dining reservations they want before adding the dining plan...if they can't get their choices it may not be worth getting a dining plan.
