How is your luck booking outside WDW?

We are looking to purchase (we may start by renting points) and will probably want to take vacations that are not to WDW (imagine that) as our kids get older. We are thinking Europe, Hawaii, Caribbean to start. How has your lock been trading. We go to WDW about one a year and think it would be great for those vacations, but is is good for trading to other places as well. My father and brother just purchased at Atlantis (Nassau) and their trading options seem good. Is DVC the same? Again, I appreciate your wisdom.
