How is the weekend following Pres. Day?

DD's school was supposed to be out Feb. 26 and 27. We took the opportunity to schedule a quick trip to WDW hoping for light crowds since this did not fall on a holiday weekend. Now the school has changed the dates to Feb. 19 and 20, which would put us at WDW the weekend after President's Day. Should we try to change our trip (not sure we even can because we're DVC members and I'd bet they're all booked)? Or should I talk to the principal tomorrow and politely explain that we TRIED for her to not miss school, but it's not nice to change the calendar 5 weeks in advance when we were given this schedule last May?

I'm also curious about the crowds.

This year you may have an influx of Louisiana visitors. Mardi Gras falls on Tues., Feb. 24. Many schools are off the entire week and so a lot of people go to WDW for the full week.

We are arriving on Sun., Feb. 22, and are leaving Friday the 27.

We went for Mardi Gras two years ago, but it fell the week before president's day. Our longest wait then was about 45 minutes but that was for TestTrack late in the day. We arrived at a different park at opening time and walked on the biggies: Space Mtn, ToT, RocknRollerCoaster.

All in all I understand that the weekend and day of President's Day is when the crowds are the biggest. It slacks off until March once many spring break visitors start to arrive.

I will be there Feb 20 to Feb 26. I to would like to know how the crowds will be. I only plan on going to the parks Mon, Tue and Wed, totaly skipping the weekend. Maybe go resort hopping on Sat and to a water park on Sun.

I had asked this question earlier, but got no real answer. Maybe now that it is getting closer to the dates, some one will be able give us some inside on the subject.

I now that I read some where here in the message boards that some cheerleader group would be hitting the area on or around the 27th.

I'm pretty sure Mon. the 23rd through the beginning of March will be fine. But I've heard lots of schools get out the whole week of Pres. Day. Park hours are extended at the MK early in the week, but go back to normal by Thursday. I don't know what we'll do. I guess I'll call in the morning to see if I can even get a room that weekend. If we can't, then the decision is made. DD'll just have to miss school. I'm sure the principal will understand. It's just so frustrating. If she was going to miss school for the trip, we would've gone in January when I know the crowds will be light.

If you can't or don't want to change the weekend the school should understand. I don't think they should change a calendar after it is posted. Last year my neighbor and I were taking our girls to Chicago for their birthday in March during a 4 day weekend. We had an ice storm and they put the 2 days back on the calendar the week before they went which I understood but we could not reschedule flights, etc. so we went. Our prinicipal excused the days in that circumstance (and the school is usually very strict on absences).

I think you will be fine with either of those dates. Yes, you will have an influx of LA visitors - us included - for the mardi gras holiday, but we have been doing this for years now, and never really since a huge surge in crowds due to this.

I am sorry about the change is schedule - it is frustrating, but I would just make my decision today - knowing you are fine either way crowd wise and move on - I would hate to see it spoil your trip.
