How Is The New 'Ohana Menu?

I recently reviewed an 'Ohana menu from November 2005, and it appears they've made several changes since we last visited in February 2004. I'm new to the Discussion Forum and the system won't let me post an URL; but I saw the menu from Allearsnet:

* Was the Spicy sweet-sour shrimp always served as an appetizer? I remember they used to bring grilled tiger shrimp around on the skewers as part of the main entree.

* How is the Hawaiian pork sausage with pineapple terriyaki glaze that has replaced the shrimp as a meat item they bring to the tables?

* I don't remember the Maui scalloped potatoes on the menu.

* I've never tried 'Ohana bread pudding a la mode with bananas foster sauce; but the pineapple chunk sticks with caramel sauce were an old favorite.

Although none of these items would in and of themselves discourage us from visiting 'Ohana next month; how are they?

They don't have the skewered tiger shrimp any longer. I beleive it was shrimo won-tons that used to be served as an appetizer. The new sweet and sour shrimp appetizer is fantastic! I like it a lot better than the grilled tiger shrimp!

YUCKY!!!! It didn't have ANY taste in my and DH's opinion! Oh, also one of my good friends ate there before we did and warned us about this. Not a very good replacement. We passed after one bite.

These are new and DELICIOUS!!!!! WOW! I 'm not a big potato fan and I had to ask DH to take and put them next to him because I couldn't stay out of them! Reminded me something that grandma used to make and we heard the same comment at a table next to us.

The pineapple and caramel was the perfect ending to the meal, I agree. However, the new bread pudding with ice cream is delicious as well. I couldn't eat more than a bite or two as I was already so full, but it is a great new addition to the menu! A wonderful blend of flavors!

We still love it and highly recommend it! I think you'll like the changes. One thing I miss is the cocoanut sweet bread they served with the meal. The bread in the bread pudding tastes just like it though so I get to still have some. I just made an ADR for my parents and brothers to join us when we are there in June. Ohana's is still our fav by far! :sunny:

Quite a few changes. We enjoyed it but not as much as before. It will be a toss up if we go again.

We ate there the beginning of December and loved the food. I've eaten there with the old menu and I really like the shrimp they have now (we had two helpings) and the wings were the best. We did not care for the sausage, we were never served the potatoes ( I actually forgot about them ). Both my husband and I really like the bread pudding, my husband had never eated at Ohana before he's never had the pineapple so he had nothing to compare to, but while I liked the pudding, I really preferred the pineapple, but that will not stop us from eating there again.

We never ate there with the old menu so we had nothing to compare it to. But we love Ohana. Everything tasted yummy. It was our fave place during our last stay. The shrimp were great. A bit messy but so good. I ate almost the entire bowl alone. I did not care for the sausage though. Just wasnt my thing. But the pork and beef made up for it. The potatos were excellent. The sweetpea ate them up. And the dessert was delicious. I have a sensitivity to pineapple so I was glad when I heard the dessert was changed. Even though we were stuffed, we ate it. I think you will like the new menu,

We were big fans of the old Ohana and loved the new one as well. I really emjoyed the new shrimp and potatoes. The new dessert is also fantastic.

The one restaurant my husband requests everytime we go is Ohana, and this last trip a few weeks ago was our first experience with the new menu.

As we were first served, DH was taken aback that there were no pot stickers, instead, they had dipping chips with sauces and he wasn't happy about that.

He quit grumbling when they started bringing out the meat, however. He loved the shrimp, but I found the peel and eat to be too messy and not worth the trouble. I loved the sausage, it was much milder than other sausages I have had in the past.

The potatoes were delicious, but dessert was our hands down favorite. The bread pudding had me planning our next vacation before we even paid our bill. I am not a traditional bread pudding fan, but this stuff was orgasmic. I didn't miss the pineapple and caramel dip at all.

We will definitely be back again!

We loved the new menu in October. The salad was fresh and the dressing was great. The wonton chips were good. The shrimp were tasty, the wings great. The potatoes were GREAT - I look forward to eating them again. The skewers (sp?) were good and offered frequently. I am not a sausage person, so I did not try them. Desert was awesome.
This was may favorite meal - even over LeCellier. We will return!

We ate there tonight...thought everything was delicious! My DD missed the rice, but I agree with everyone else, the potatos are outstanding. :sunny:

We ate there Christmas Eve. Ohana is a must do for us, but I was concerned about the menu change and warned the family.

*Was the Spicy sweet-sour shrimp always served as an appetizer? I remember they used to bring grilled tiger shrimp around on the skewers as part of the main entree.

Yes, they were an appetizer. Messy, as you can imagine, but they do bring you hot towels to wipe up with. I prefer these to the grilled shrimp, but I am not really a shrimp person, so I could take them or leave them.

* How is the Hawaiian pork sausage with pineapple terriyaki glaze that has replaced the shrimp as a meat item they bring to the tables?

No one in my family liked these. I didn't notice any "glaze". They looked like large sausage links to me. The steak, turkey and pork are still excellent. I am not a big meat eater, but DS ( age 17, 6'6", 250 and DH are and they were happy with the other choices).

* I don't remember the Maui scalloped potatoes on the menu.

Replaced the rice, a favorite of my DS. I liked them. DH and DS didn't but they were still OK with that. Others said they were "ok".

* I've never tried 'Ohana bread pudding a la mode with bananas foster sauce; but the pineapple chunk sticks with caramel sauce were an old favorite.

I thought it was good, but not as good as the pineapple and carmel. No one else in my group of 5 would even touch it. A bit heavy in my opinion after that huge meal. That was one reason I liked the fruit and carmel - a much better ending for a heavy meal.
I really missed the shrimp wontons. Also missed the lazy susan, where you could "spin' the food around. I am sure I am the only one who misses the green beans, too, but I liked them. The sauce arrived in three small bowls and there was no way to place in on your plate....nothing really to put it in, so I only even tried the one. I really don't care for the presentation.

That said, I am sure we will continue to go back, every trip. The pluses outway the minuses to my group.

'Ohana is my favorite restaurant at WDW. The new menu was fine. Somethingsd I like better and some not and some wew fine.
The new shrim are much better than the ones from the skewer paying mind that I am not a huge shrimp fan.
The Sausages are not bad but are bland.
The potatoes are fine. Non of us thought they were outstanding but all agreed they didn't compliment the other kind of foods served,
The Bread Pudding is good and I do not normally care for it. I still prefer the old pinapple and caramel but this new desert is really good too.
'Ohana is still my favorite. :)

We never ate the older menu, but we enjoyed the new one very much in December, especially the scalloped potatoes. We ordered refills of this twice.

We are not doing Ohana this trip--due to the new menu and a few members of our party who cannot eat dairy. I was wondering if anyone knew if they can substitute anything for the potatoes and bread pudding???

TIA :sunny:

I'd actually forgotten about the rice or didn't notice they'd omitted it; but I used to make a bed of it, chinese style, and put sliced meat on top. The dessert and potatoes sound like a hit; but I know ahead of time to get small portions of the sausage. I've never been a shrimp fan, but we loved the lazy susan arrangement and always requested additional sauces. That's the nicest thing about 'Ohana: they give you plenty of what you enjoy and to heck with anything objectionable.

Nope, you remember correctly. The new shrimp seem to be slightly smaller than the ones on the skewers, but taste every bit as good, IMHO.

I loved it. Very tasty; just a bit of a bite (sorta tasted like black pepper to me).

Yeah, they're new, and excellent. Tastes like a very mild cheddar cheese to me.

The pineapple was never my favorite. I like pineapple, and I like caramel, but I didn't like them together, and especially not as a desert. But the new desert is my single most favorite sweet treat at WDW! Completely blows away Dole Whips, Mickey Bars, and those excellent cinamon rolls from Starring Rolls! Fantastic! Phenomenal! I could make a meal of just that desert!

I loved all the new items. Although I loved the old items, I enjoyed the meal at 'Ohana even more with the new items. 'Ohana was already my mostest favoritest place to eat in all of WDW, and it still is - even more so now.
