how is the main pool and water slide at OKW

I think the slide in the "sandcastle" lighthouse is great. I wouldn't recommend laying down completely -- I bonked by head, but YMMV. There's even a sauna in the other lighthouse, the hot tub is great, and the showers by the pool are equipped with shampoo dispensers if you're waiting at the pool to get into your room or spending time on your departure day.

The pool extends under a bridge that preteens seem to love.

You can check out DVDs at Community Hall. In January DD23 and I watched National Treasure and the movie about the Tower of Terror.

HTH

Yes, beware of the slide! I bonked my head too. Here I thought I was the only one. As I came out of the slide a lifeguard was standing up at the ready . . . how embarrassing and it really hurt! Anyway, that was the last trip down it for me but my kids loved the slide there. We truly enjoyed our stay at Old Key West. We were glad that we had our car as we were the furthest possible unit from the main pool. It was a very relaxing atmosphere there.

If you have never stayed at OKW before and don't have a car, there is an internal shuttle that you can grad and will take you to the HH (Hospitality House). No need to worry about being far away.

I guess we just preferred the convenience of the car instead of having to wait at the bus stop just to get to the pool/HH.

I bonked my head on that slide too!:rotfl: :rotfl: Must be a trend! The kids had no problem with it, though. They loved the main pool, and when we visited our leisure pool near our building instead we had it practically to ourselves. We had a car but found it just as easy to grab the bus to the main pool.

Since ANY bus will take you to the HH, there isn't much need to do much waiting for a bus to the main pool.

OKW is DS6's favorite resort right now....

He loves the waterslide... He claims the newer slides are better because they have the "Stop" and "Go" lights on them... :goodvibes

IMO, OKW has the best Community Hall of all of the DVC resorts and some of the best CM's... They really do a good job keeping the kids entertained and keeping the area around the pool and docks 'hopping'. Make sure to spend some time there...

GREAT pool @ OKW .Also the grounds are beautiful. We love it there The rooms are also bigger too. The sit down restaurant is good also. We try to book a building close to the HH so it is just a short walk. Enjoy!!!!!:goodvibes :woohoo: :beach:

The pool is nice but I didn't particularily care for the side, it winds around and around the structure, made me a little dizzy. I go on once. My DD 7 says it makes her a little dizzy too but she goes on many times.

WE LOVE THE SLIDE!!!!!! It was a lot of fun! The kids went down over and over! They also love the sand! There is a huge area to play in the sand there. They give you a list of activities for kids (and kids at heart) at check-in along with balloon swords or flowers. The cast members we encountered were great! We love OKW!:wizard:

We will be there in October and will have a 4pm flight out when we leave. Are there locker rooms to change in by the pool with showers, or just the restroom and an outdoor rinse-off type shower? Know what I mean? Thanks!

Oh tarheel! They have fabulous shower areas! Lockers and all you will need for a late flight. That is what we did in January (our first trip with DVC and it was to OKW). There was even a hair dryer in there if I am not mistaken. It was clean and nice.

OKW had everything imaginable. I thought it was just dreamy. Honestly, I could just move in--if they'd let me! :goodvibes

I agree...I think you'll find everything you need in the locker rooms. Over the years I've seen them used that way many, many times!:thumbsup2
