How is Kona Cafe for dinner?

I tried to get a ressie for Ohana but there's nothing available before 9:20pm so the person I was talking to suggested Kona Cafe. I'm trying to find a place to go eat dinner before we go to MVMCP. I had 1900 Park Fare booked but my daughter now tells me "I'm nine, Mom! I don't want to eat with anymore princesses!" So, our other character meals are fine because they're Mickey and the gang or Pooh but she doesn't want Cinderella or any of them coming up to her!

Anyway, the menu sounds good at Kona? How is the atmosphere? We're not staying at Poly but love going there for meals. (btw, my other child is a boy who's 8)

Thanks for all opinions!!

DH and DS 11 at the time really enjoyed our meal there. The menu is varied enough for everyone to enjoy. We were served quickly and the food was very good.

We also love to go over to the Poly for a meal one day hopefully we can stay there as well. Thumbs up here for the Kona and Dh and DS are very picky so its a win when they both enjoy their meal.

Have a great time!

OK atmosphere, its nice there we had a booth and everyone was comfortable.

Kona is a favorite with us and we eat their every trip.

Love the scallops and shrimp, i get the shrimp seared though, not fried, much better IMHO. Hubby loves loves loves the mahi mahi mmmm

The restaurant is different depending on where you sit. The restaurant is open to the Poly, surrounded by a wrought iron divider. So if you are on the outside of the restaurant, you will see more of the poly foliage and people on the walkways

inside is more secluded and there are a few locations that are close to romantic:thumbsup2

We ate @ The Kona Cafe last year and loved it! It is a smaller restaurant.
The food was fabulous! We plan on going again this September. It's definitely a repeat place.

OMG!! Yum!! I am kinda dissapointe that we are missing 'Ohana this trip, but your pics kinda make up for it!!

We love to eat at Kona. :lovestruc Usually eat there twice during our trip (that's how much my DM likes it!)

The first time we went there we almost left without going in. :confused3 That would have been a mistake. From the outside it looks almost like an upscale coffee shop. It's not, and the food is very good. The chicken sticky wings appie is really good! The servers are good too. Most of them are friendly. :)

Kona is AWESOME.....the prime rib and filet are to die for :cool1:. Kona is a must do for us every trip :goodvibes.

We went this past winter and I think it was my favorite meal of the week. The steak I had surpassed the one at LeCellier. It was the beef-teryaki. The mashed potatoes with it were great and the broccolli was perfectly cooked. I'd definitely put this one on our must do list for any future trips.

Kona cone for dessert was perfect!

I'm underwhelmed with the kids menu offerings overall at WDW. DK is relieved to know that they'll be on the adult meal plan for the next trip.

Kona is very good for dinner. We like the open air atmosphere, but like the desserts more!!!!

Ha! Same thing happened with us! After looking at the menus, though, we decided that the food at Kona looks more to our taste anyway.

Holy cow! That prime rib is HUGE! We have ADRs for Kona in Sept, and I couldn't decide between the prime rib and the teriyaki steak. I think I'll go for the teriyaki... I'd NEVER finish that prime rib!

This'll be our first time at Kona, and we're really looking forward to it. Heh, the filet already has my DH's name all over it.

Nice pics, BTW!

If you like the menu at Kona, the atmosphere is nice.

Perosnally, we liked it more in the past. It definitely is one place that has been hurt by menu changes in the last few years. They used to have a ton of cool desserts there.

I'm kind of a little surprised though that if there is little space at 'Ohana that there would be much available at Kona..

Any suggestions on a special dessert that I could order to celebrate my wedding anniversary? Should we just order something off the dessert menu or ask for something special from the kitchen? This is our first trip, so we know nothing about Kona or Disney World!

We ended up eating at Kona for the first time when we couldn't get into Ohana, and were pleasantly surprised. The Teryaki Steak was amazing, and I swear the mashed potatoes were the best I've ever had.

The second time I went however, I got the Coconut Almond Chicken, and it wasn't nearly as satisfying. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either.

We tried Kona for the first time last August before the P & P party.... it was awesome! :cool1:

That is EXACTLY why I have never eaten there. Atmosphere is a big part of dining for me. Now I am going to reconsider! Argh, back to the Passporter to see how I an work Kona in!

Atmosphere is important to us also. I'm looking for a restaurant to replace an iffy Tony's ADR. The menu looks very good to me, but I've read it's a very loud restaurant. We like having dinner conversation & hate loud restaurants. We've avoided Cali Grill for the same reason. Is Kona so loud that it's distracting?
