how is kona cafe dinner?

My husband and I ate dinner here once since we stayed tv he poly. We loved the bread, service and ease to get in and out. I had scallops, sushi and a dessert plus cocktail. Hubs had a steak, beer and dessert. We enjoyed breakfast here several times as well.

I've had several dinners there over the years, and it was consistently very good. Would definitely recommend Kona.

NOTE: Kona Cafe is quite good for breakfast when getting their famous Tonga Toast or
Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes. Other breakfast offerings are pretty much "just average".
They are usually quick with the service as they are trying to turn tables and get more
people through the eatery. The food quality/service level both severely suffer for lunch
and dinner. There have been many complaints about the slow service and poor food quality.
They changed lunch/dinner menus in August-2012, and lots of folks are displeased that
older favorites such as the ribeye is missing. As for value, it ranks as one of the most
overpriced eateries at WDW, as the size of meat and chicken servings are miniscule.

Kind of overpriced for what you get IMHO.... in other words, fairly small portions in contrast to many other places at WDW- that said, I liked my food -it was good- and the sushi rolls are really good. But my DH and BIL are big eaters, and felt hungry after dinner

Not as good as they used to be. I like the terriyaki steak, potstickers and bread. The menu seems limited.

I have always had solidly good meals here. They have a great noodle bowl and a great banana creme brulee dessert! I think you can never go wrong with Kona...I mean plus the location is awesome!

We always enjoyed Kona as well, never hade a bad meal there yet. Only a much to be desired waiter. Funny thing I asked my family is there any place you would like to try for dinner. And my daughter stated " I don't care about any other meals but I would like to go back to Kona's or Narcoossee's for dinner if we can "

We love it. I enjoy the Kona Salad and the seared tuna and my husband likes their noodles. You can't beat that soft sweet bread! And most of their desserts are quite delicious too. We just like the atmosphere as well.

We have never stayed at Poly, but we've eaten there twice at Kona and have ADR for our next trip. We like it.

I have a res for Kona breakfast and dinner same day...bad idea? opinions please from those who have eaten there.
We will be at MK on a MNSSHP night. Should we try something else for the dinner and/or breakfast?
I have been trying to get Ohana for dinner, no luck so far.

Trying 3 different restaurants this trip. We've been going yearly or so and have our staples but this year we are trying a new resort and 3 new restaurants:

Kona Café
1900 Park Fare
Sanaa

My husband and I both love dinner at Kona. He always orders some form of sushi and loves it. I'm a huge fan of the chicken dish that they have.

We love Kona Cafe for dinner. Plus, you can get one of these. I had some sort of sushi and DH had a noodle dish, but this was the star.

I think you will be better off just doing Kona once in a day. I would go with breakfast, and then try somewhere else for dinner. Kona's atmosphere is fine (not as magical as many WDW restaurants), but I think it would feel monotonous to eat there twice in one day. If you want to stick with the Poly, the Ohana breakfast is fun and easier to get a ressie for. You could do that and Kona dinner.

I've always enjoyed Kona although I've only ever gone for dinner. Except this year i have an ADR for lunch. Their bread and macadamia butter is always a highlight! Plus I love just being at the Poly, it's on my bucket list of resorts to stay at one day.

I love Kona! I have eaten there for breakfast and dinner. For dinner, the sushi is amazing, and the bread they serve when you first arrive is awesome!
Just as a side note, they have a great breakfast as well. Not too pricey, and great food! I had the famous Tonga Toast and it was wonderful!

It's my daughter's first choice for this trip. She loves the sushi. We ate there 3x on the last one, twice for dinner and once for breakfast. I got the teriyaki steak (loved it) and the noodle bowl (didn't like it). For breakfast, I got the hash -- can't remember the name of it.

Personally, I wouldn't go twice in the same day. Do you have tickets for the MNSSHP? That makes a difference to me; if you DO have tickets, I'd go to Kona for dinner. It's tough to get an ADR in MK on the party nights. Taking the monorail over to Kona may be a nice break for you.
If you DON'T have tickets, I'd have bfast at Kona and spend the day at the park. Then get dinner somewhere else that is open later!

I went last year on a last minute solo trip for a few days, and ate at Kona for lunch and dinner. I was sad the 2nd day when I went for lunch because they said the bread was only served at dinner.

While the breakfast offerings are unique they are also VERY sweet--too much so for my tastes.

Lunch and dinner are limited menu but I've never had a bad meal there and I really like the noodle bowls.

Service has never been rude, but I've had it take over 20 minutes to get the check.
