How is it REALLY with 5 people in one room?

We're a family of 5 and have always had just one room. We always stayed at a deluxe resort, usually the Yacht or Beach Club and never had an issue. Now that my kids are 13, 15, and 17 I prefer 2 rooms, but if we're only heading up there for the night we still stay in one room at the Yacht Club.

We were very comfortable with 5 at the Poly-dh, ds11, ds7, dd5. It was one of our most magical trips; lagoon view concierge. That said, I don't know if we'll ever do it again now that we stayed a week at Vistana in a 2 br/2 bth for the price of one night at the Poly... Maybe on an adult-only trip someday. If price is not an issue for you, go ahead and do the Poly. You will be fine space-wise and love the monorail. Best wishes!

We're a family of 4 and we really dislike staying in one room. The kids are 4 and 7 and we need our space from them. It doesn't help that we're spoiled DVC members... Last summer we stayed at the GF for 4 nights before moving over to BWV for 7 nights. After those 4 nights both DH and I were ready to go home. Staying in one room, having to have lights out when the kids were tired, was a pain. We headed to BWV and that was when our vacation began. We were MUCH more relaxed being able to spread out, and the 7 nights FLEW compared to the first 4 nights. We really dislike staying in one room, but we do make do sometimes because we have no choice. Since my kids are little, it works out, and it will for you too since they are little. As mine get older, I'll be getting 2 rooms or suites.

We had 5 in a standard-sized AKL room (8 days) and CSR (2 days) in May -- dh, 12 yo, 4 yo, 2.5 yo, me. The only time we were ever in our room was to sleep. While we had a portacrib at both resorts, the little ones chose to sleep together. At AKL, they slept in the top bunk. At CSR, I fell asleep with the little ones in one bed; and dh and ds slept in the other. We had plenty of room and experienced no problems. I had plenty of reservatins about this at first (We usually have much more space but had been unable to reserve a second room due to late planning and the Memorial Weekend.) However, we did just fine. In fact, it was less nerve-wracking than checking on my kids in another room. They are known to wander!!

WE had 5 in our room last year. DH,DS 4 4 6, and I. We never felt cramped. I would always get up first in the morning. Take a shower, then wake everyone else up. I think you will be fine!

We are a family of 5, DD12, DS9, DS5. We have just returned from a week at POR and one night at CR - north wing. Although we survived at POR, it was cramped. The only problem we really had was with kids waking up and everyone needed the toilet at the same time. It became a race for the kids and a source of aggravation for mom! We weren't ready to leave WDW, so we added one night on at CR and had a third floor North wing room. The room was so much bigger and DH commented that the room was much more doable for our family. But one warning - there wasn't a balcony on the wing rooms. The sliding door opened up, but there was only a small ledge, nothing on which to stand. If the rooms at the GF or Poly are equal in size to what we had - I think you'll be fine. Have a great time!

Hi,

We spent 6 nights at POR with our five year old triplets and didn't have any problems. We all went to sleep at the same time, so that wasn't a problem (we were all exhausted!). The kids slept in one bed together (nobody wanted the trundle... oh well). We requested two bed rails. I had planned on re-making the bed "sideways," but the kids didn't want that either. They looked crowded, but it sure didn't stop them from sleeping. (Did I mention we were all exhausted? LOL!) At the GF, I think you'll have a daybed, too, won't you?

We never had any problems with only one bath. At POR there are two sinks outside the bathroom. Dh showered in the a.m. and the kids and I showered in the p.m.

BTW, we spent very little time in the room, so that made it even less of an issue.

Betty

I have twin five year olds and a four year old, all boys. we live in a two bedroom house with one bathroom, 850 square feet an it is fine. the boys often (usually 1 or 2) come sleep with us at night in our king size bed or crawl in bed together in their room (they have a cot and a bunk bed)

Needless to say when we travel we always get one room - generally a king and a cot or two queens/ doubles and never have a problem :)

enjoy your trip!

I'm doing my 3rd & final trip with 6 in a Poly room-Me, DH, DD(6), DS(4), DD(2), and an adult friend. We've always stayed concierge so we've had the lounge to spread out in if needed. Concierge would be cheaper than a 2nd room and really convenient.

oops...not my final trip to Disney but DD(2) will turn 3 and then we'll have to get 2 rooms or leave friend at home.

thank you all! I sent it to DH, and we're going to do one room. I really appreciate all the advice!!!!

triplefigs - I know you said you've made your decision, but I thought I'd give you a little more ammo! LOL! We are a family of 5 as well, and we always stay in the same room together, even in the Comfort Inn on the way down! :earseek: We started going to WDW when the kids were 6, 8, & 10 and our last trip all together was when they were 11, 13, & 15. As you can see from my signature, we've stayed in a range of resort levels, and we've never had any problems. Usually, the kids set up a rotation for the daybed (for some reason they all wanted it!) and the other two would sleep together on the second bed. I have 2 boys and a girl, and usually most of my family took their showers right before bed, and I would take mine in the morning. I hate bed head! :rotfl:

Hope you have a wonderful trip!

We have 5 27 year old females staying in one room at the YC. Were nuts but were saving a lot of money while staying at a deluxe resort. Its going to be great!!! :grouphug:
