How Is DL In June?

We are planning our first DL trip for next June. Our plan is to get there around the 3rd week or so right after school gets out here in NY. Is it really busy at this time or is the 4th of July the start of "busy" season? We are planning on park days during the week and we are rope-droppers (at least at WDW).

I think weekend vs weekday makes more of a difference, eve during summer. Crowds get a lot heavier outside of work hours, because that is when locals can come.

I can't remember when CA schools get out, but our district got out beginning of June so a lot of people went mid June. Crowds did not feel lower then (well, lower than holidays, probably but we never went on any of the holiday weekends).

All CA districts end of different dates, but people will take their kids after school all year long. DL definitely gets busier after Memorial Day, but it's always busy now. With the current pass structure, if you happen to be there 2-3 days before the lower level AP blocks start in June, it will be wall-to-wall level crowds, then probably drop off the next day, then slowly start to pick up again for the rest of the week. It's hard to say how APs will be structured over a year from now, or how MaxPass will affect which level APs people buy. Another unknown right now is if Disney will extend their So Cal ticket discount offer into June, or end it in May like they have the past few years.

We went first week of June. Grad nights are definitely a thing, however the crowds weren't quite so bad. It was busy for sure but not horrific. HOWEVER, it was hot. So...prepare for that.

I've been twice in June. The first time, we needed jackets until mid-morning and then it was beautiful. Last year, it was HOT -- like record-breaking hot, and humid. Felt like wdw

June is fine. We like to go in June. Try to schedule your trip so that you come after Grad Nights are over. The last one is June 17 this year. That is our travel day and we start our trip June 18. It will be busy, but not peek Spring Break or Holiday busy.

I'm not scared of being hot. We usually go to WDW every year in September so heat is no problem. Might be nice to have heat and not have 4000% humidity though.....

Go on days the SoCal Annual Passes are blocked. Avoid the days the SoCal APs are allowed in.

Are they usually blocked in late June? How far in advance would we know if they are?

We were planning going around June 20-21 after school gets out here. I was hoping to get to DL before summer.

How does DL define busy? We are rope-droppers at WDW and love getting there before opening to take advantage of lower early day crowds. If we can ride what we want for the first couple hours then use FP wisely should there be any issue with crowds?

If you go to WDW in September, it is hotter than DL in June or July. Heat is relative. When we go to DLR and people are complaining about how horribly hot it is, it always feels fine to us. We have been to DLR in June or July for the last 7 years. The first year we went in July, I was really worried about how crowded it would be and I was pleasantly surprised. DLR isn't awful in the summer by a WDW vet's standards. It is what I call moderate. The most crowded days we have had at DLR have been on the Monday and Tuesdays in early June when it is some of the very last days the passholders have before being blocked for the summer. Those two days are crazy busy. Those should be before your trip. Avoid those couple of days, and you should be fine. By the 3rd week of June, you will probably be in shorts and short sleeves day and night. In early June, it is cool in the mornings and evenings and warm in the afternoon. More than once, I have bought a sweatshirt/jacket in the evening for DD or myself at DL/CA (and yes- I know I could come prepared and carry one in the park with me and drag it around all day, but where is the fun in that!). In July, I have never been cold. Also, if you are rope drop people you will love it at DLR. The parks usually open at 8:00 a.m., and because a lot of the people are local, from 8:00 -10:00 a.m., it is typically very low crowds. It is way less than you find at WDW at rope drop at moderate times. We can get a ton done in those first 2 hours.

Dates are published at least a year out so people buying passes know their blockouts before they buy the pass.

June, used to be all soCal could go first 2 weeks. Now it appears the select can go first week, but the soCal can go the whole month. YIKES!!!! Local kids out of school, and can go to Disneyland with cheap pass.

I can say this for sure... I will NOT be going in June. Too many times I have been burned on those days when the locals are out of school and can go with their SoCal passes. Never again.

Not sure what you mean by before summer, but Disney typically kick's summer season off Memorial Day weekend. This year they are starting their Summer of Heroes promotion on Memorial Day weekend. They also kicked off the 60th anniversary on Memorial Day weekend in 2015. I would say 95% of CA schools are out before June 20. Most are out around the first week of June and some even get out at the end of May (my daughter does this year).

Well they can go most of June. The SCAP is blocked all Friday's (and Saturdays of course) starting June 9 and they are also blocked Wed and Thursday 21/222. That is part of why I wanted to go that week. Although, if they're blocked that week and not the next it makes me worry there is something else causing crowds...They are blocked all of July, but I think there are more tourists in July so crowds may be about the same.

Yeah I'm from Utah where it's a dry heat. The moisture in CA seems like a lot to us but not like you'd have in FL!!!

We prefer to rope drop as well. You will be awesome in the mornings most likely..and then after about 2 pm it gets busy when people get off work and such. I wouldn't avoid it, just start early like you said :)

Would mid-July be a better option when AP's are blocked? Would the tourist crowd make up the difference with the local crowd?

I am conditioned to avoid Disney in July and August since WDW is a crowded nightmare for those months. If I hit a Tues-Thurs mid July would that be OK crowd-wise?

Probably not. Lower level APs are blocked during July for a reason. Many locals have the higher level passes so the drop off after the few days before the block outs aren't really that steep after the 4th when "summer" really kicks off as far as people using vacation time.

This is getting complicated. How about this - go Tues-Fri in late June, go early and not worry about it? Shouldn't 4 days be enough to do everything for a first timer?
