How is Delta?

I just noticed that Delta has an early flight out of Columbus, OH, and am thinking about booking it, but . . .

Back in Oct. 2001 (a month after 9/11), they were incredibly bad about changing and canceling flights. I remember that our flight back home was OK, but our flight to Orlando was changed right before we left.

Are they still doing that? I like to get to WDW early and leave late. Right now, I can do that with either Air Tran out of Dayton or Delta out of Columbus. (We're flying 10/23-11/1.)

How has Delta been lately and what would you do? Our preference is Columbus because of distance, but I'm willing to go to Dayton if there's a chance the 6 a.m. out of Columbus will be canceled or changed.

There was a thread about Delta several weeks ago on this board.

You will find some that love Delta while others swear they will never fly them again. I think you can say that about all the airlines.

Well, just to note, thatall the airlines were bad with changes just after 9/11/01, not just Delta; so you really shouldn't hold that against them. I expect your chances of a flight or equipment change are fairly small, but slightly higher on Delta than on AirTran (which only flies one type of plane I believe). I believe the Columbus service on Delta was mostly done thru Chautauqua Air, so maybe not something you can blame Delta for at all.

My advice would be to take the most convenient flights and just hope for the best. The airlines aren't in the business of Bait-and-switch for the most part and really want and expect to offer you the service you sign up for when you buy the tix. Sometimes circumstances change tho, and they have to keep up. We are getting close enought o October that they have a pretty good idea of when and what they will be flying, so risks are lower of flight changes.

Inky,
Since 9/11, I and/or my family have begun vacations (using Delta) from the following airports.... FNT, DTW, TOL and SDF (Louisville) (twice). Overall, the experience has been fine. I like the Delta website and their flight choices. I DO NOT LIKE changing planes in ATL (I am always "timid" when/if I have to change terminals at that airport). When possible, I like to change planes at CVG.

If the price and times meet your criteria, it should be no problem for you.

Good luck.

Dave
