How is Boma?

Sorry if this has been asked before but we'll be staying at AKL for the first time later this year and I was wondering about Boma. Personally I love buffets - I feel there's much more selection which is especially good as it gives the kids (DD9 and DS8) more choices to choose from. Does Boma have mainly African inspired food or is it half that and half American? We're not the best when it comes to trying new things. We stayed at CSR on our last trip and the food was one of my main worries, since I don't like Mexican anything, but that was quickly put to rest the moment we got to the food court so I was curious about this place as I've heard good reports about it.

Thanks for the help!

Debbie

Hi. It is mostly African. There is a children's "pod" that has all American food on it. (Chicken Fingers, Macaroni and cheese etc.) It is one of our favorites!

Sorry, but this was the one place we'll never go back to - we did not like it AT ALL - BUT there are many who think it's great.

This was def.ly one of the most crowded, also (in July) - we had to wait in a long line just to get to the food on the buffet.

I LOVE Boma!!!!! I drool when I think about it! Seriously though, it is a buffet. So you don't need to be too adventurous. Everything is laid out in front of you to take a good look at before you put it on your plate! Go ahead and try some new things, though! The flavors are amazing! In fact, I make a few recipes from there on a regular basis. The Bobotie, Durban style Flank Steak, coconut curried chicken stew, couscous, tabouli, falafel~delish!!!!

If you decide that the flavors are not your style, fill up on the mac n cheese and deserts!

We also love BOMA. It's the only buffet we will do. There's plenty for adventurous eaters and there's plenty for picky eaters so everyone in the group is happy. Since we first "discovered" this place 4 years ago, we've eaten here on every trip.

We have only done a breakfast here but loved it. There was the usual bacon, sausage etc but also lots of fruit and a few hot dishes from Africa (porridgey stuff and a couple of others). The Boma juice was lovely!

I think this is the best buffet I have ever experienced. And that's sayin' somethin'! :thumbsup2

my mom and I went there on our xmas trip. we loved it and my mom is not very adventurous. she walked around for a bit but did find things she liked and she isn't a huge eater anyway unless it is dessert and she had 2 huge plate fulls of dessert. as for me, i couldn't get enough of it and enjoyed the flavors so much that i too make the dishes at home. can't wait to go back.

on another note, not sure i would take kids though. to me, there are better buffets at WDW for kids. mine especially loves the trail end buffet at FW.

We enjoyed it. I hate curry and I hate coconut but our waiter talked me inot trying the coconut curried chicken soup :thumbsup2 . I LOVED it!!!

I'm not the most adventurous eater either but I really liked it. Mostly I'm just glad I tried it all. there were items I did not care for but I found several things I really enjoyed. And if you try it all and find nothing then just get a big plate of zebra domes :worship:

If you are not adventurous in the least and just want "American" pizza/burgers/chicken then save your money and stick w/ counter service.

So many people rave about this buffet and I just don't get it. I am open to eating anything and there really isn't a food I don't like. With that said, I thought the food was aweful. DH and kids too! What was I missing?!:confused3

We absolutely LOVE:lovestruc LOVE:lovestruc LOVE Boma's!

I am somewhat picky, son is picky, hubby not at all... and we all loved it!

In fact, it is on our TS list twice for our 2008 trip!

Some foods were very exotic, some were just mid, and some were not at all. There are also the "old stand-by foods like salad, pasta, meatballs, and chicken for those not wanting to venture into new areas!

We loved Boma too! We ate there last June -- DS and DD are picky eaters, but found plenty of "American" choices (chicken fingers and spaghetti -- that kind of thing). DH and I loved it! I must admit that my absolute favorite thing was the press-pot of Kenyan coffee -- after a week of Nescafe, it was like drinking the nectar of the gods!

This summer, we have a dinner and a breakfast booked there -- in fact, when I was planning our ADRs, I cannot tell you how many times DH wanted to confirm that we were going to eat at Boma. It was his favorite by far. :lovestruc

It's a fairly large buffet, a lot of African themed dishes, but they did have ribs, chicken and prime rib, all seasoned differently than any I'd had before, but very good. Tons of vegetables, some really unique ones, and I do seem to remember that they did have quite a few kid friendly dishes, such as mac&cheese. The desserts were good.

The wait staff and chefs were great (my prime rib was WAY pink and the chef did his very best to get me a more medium cooked slice!) All in all I'd say it's certainly worth a try, if you want something different.

We ate early, and were glad we did as the line for the buffet gets very long, quickly. Also, if you're a DVC Member, make sure you take your membership card, we received an unexpected but quite pleasant discount! As I am sure you already know, make the ADR's as early as you can, seems that EVERYTHING fills up, and unless you want to eat very late, you could be out of luck, which could be difficult with little people.

Hope you like it!

Another vote for the fabulousness that is Boma. My only regret is that I couldn't eat enough to try absolutely everything. I advise arriving very hungry!

Boma's awesome.

And they've got the best chicken strips.

It's my fave WDW restaurant. I've eaten there several times, both breakfast & dinner. There's plenty to eat for everyone. Give it a try!

Glad to hear it! Our first night on our upcoming trip is dinner at Boma. We have never been but are excited to try it!

One more thing---there is a check in kiosk for folks with Boma ressies inside the entrance of AKL---we didn't know this, as we'd never stayed at AKL or eaten at Bomas before and just happened to see a sign that read "check in for Bomas!" We did, our ressies were at 5PM---we checked in at 4:15, had a drink in the bar area and were called to our table BEFORE our ressie time, thank goodness as that place REALLY fills up, QUICK! As we were leaving, the restaurant was FULL and the buffet line extended from the serving area to the the entrance, WOW---there was a CROWD the night we dined there. We were there the second full week of December.
