How intense is Everest?

Depends. There aren't really any big drops (especially if you sit in the front or something, you kind of get gently placed down on the front of that one hill before you actually start rolling) but if you have motion sickness issues it may be a problem. I prefer large coasters and I feel rather "whelmed" and would compare it more to Thunder Mountain and Mummy level.
I don't quite remember a huge drop from the backwards portion.
Space Mountain is too jerky for me and genuinely unenjoyable. Glad to see other SM passers here!

I've never ridden Everest because i'm afraid of it tbh. I need to know how bad is it. I'm most nervous for the drop out of the mountain, and the backwards part a little bit. For comparison, Revenge of the Mummy is my favorite ride at Universal, and I can handle that no problem. I also love Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, and love the Phoenix at Knoebels, which has a 72 foot drop. I know Everest is higher, but it seems to be on a turn which can lessen the stomach feeling. A lot of people say how more intense Everest is to rides like Mummy so I'm worried. I need to know, how bad is it? Also, is the backwards section have a "drop" or is it a turn? I thought it's a turn from videos, but some say it's a "drop." Where also is a good seat to seat for the first time? Thanks.
This is really so personal and everyone is totally different. I think this ride is fairly intense and the backwards portion is more of a turn, less of a drop, it does go downwards but it's not an intense backwards drop at all. I don't care for the dark and strobe lights but the drop out of the mountain isn't that bad IMO. Some people may say they hate the drop and love the dark. I don't love being in the front of EE either. The train car feels so open and exposed and I hate to see the track. There is nothing in front of you in the first car and all I see is where I am going, I HATE IT!! I prefer the middle on this ride. The back is also not my friend either, feels way more intense to me.

Thunder Mountain is a more tame coaster than EE IMO, no major drops or backwards portions. To me thunder mountain feels like a kiddie coaster and is way less intense than EE. Space is more a terror for me because I don't love darkness and the jerkiness. I know space is totally lame for most RR enthusiasts as it's not fast and so old, but the darkness, perpetual twirling, rough ride and single rider train are some of my least favorite aspects of Space.

I absolutely love Everest… as long as I keep my eyes closed during the backwards segment or I’ll feel totally disoriented!

I’m 50. I have moderately low blood pressure so I get dizzy easily (like by standing up too quickly) and suffer from chronic migraine so I have found I can’t wear the 3D glasses in such experiences (I simply go and don’t wear them) can’t do the spinning side of Mission: Space, need to close my eyes to flashing lights and have found that R&R is no longer for me. That said:
ICAN RIDE EVEREST.
Way too much information but if I can do it (and I do shut my eyes for the disco Yeti ) I think you will be fine!

space Mt, ToT and Thunder all fine for me.

I consider Everest to be in the “moderate” category of coasters, at best. Super fun, but not a high thrill ride, either. I can’t wait to take my 5 year old on it at her first visit in the Fall. You should totally go for it.

I love rockin roller coaster, tower of terror, etc. however, Everest going backwards is not great for my motion sickness, even with taking medication. Spinning and vehicles moving the opposite direction of the way I’m facing are my triggers so it’s not for me for that reason.

Love Everest. I think it's much more fun than Space Mountain and probably about the same intensity. If you can ride Mummy I'd think you'll be fine on Everest. Hulk is a different story . . .
I agree. I usually go on the roller coaster rides with my teenage kids. But when we went to Universal Studios Orlando, that was one of the few roller coasters that I had to pass on. Just like the more intense version of Mission Space, I can't handle those rides anymore.

I have never done Everest. I am a ride wimp that is afraid of coasters but with every trip I try to hit one of the intense rides I never done before (and so far I always end up loving the ride)

In 2016 I started with Barnstormer, 7 Dwarfs, Big Thunder, Splash and Test Track and love them all.
In 2017 I hit Flight of Passage and Soarin
In 2019 I hit Slinky Dog Dash and YOLO Tower of Terror, which I hit it again that day because I loved it and its now the ride I want to do more on my next trip.
In 2021 I want to hit Expedition Everest and depending how that goes I will think if I can hit Rock n Roller

For the future I am still missing Space Mountain. For some reason is the one that scare me the most. I am afraid that I will feel very expose and unsaved on that ride vehicle. I can probably do the one in Disneyland but not the MK one. There will be also Guardians and Tron.

Anyway my question is: How do the the backward part of Everest compares to ToT drops ?

I think it’s a smooth ride and nothing too crazy. But as I get older(58), the going backwards definitely can throw me off a little. A few years ago i could ride it several times in a row ...now I ride once and am happy.

If you can do Space Mountain, you won't have any issues with Everest. Since you already go on roller coasters, there is no reason to not at least try going on Everest.

OP, If you can handle the Mummy, then you should have no problem with EE. They are not the same kind of roller coasters, but Mummy is more intense! The drop out of the mountain is on a curve which is way less scary than the straight drop on traditional big roller coasters. Honestly, the journey backwards inside the mountain is the most intense thing and that isn't that bad either! Yolo, conquer the Yeti and live to tell the story! :hyper:

Since I was not exposed to thrill rides and roller coasters when I was a kid, I'm pretty scared of most rides. When I took my first trip to Disney World at the age of 19 I barely rode anything. Each time I go back, I ride more attractions and Mount Everest is now one of my favorites. As far as the intensity for the drop, it's over before you know it. The only part that still scares me is when the train goes backwards.
Also, I always request to sit at the back of the train. I don't know why but it's much more fun for me that way. If you can bring yourself to ride it, be sure to take in all the details: the story is well done and scenery is beautiful.

Funny story I rode it for the first time with my wife who is a huge chicken on these types of things and the whole queue (which is by far my favorite of all the rides) she was so nervous. We finally got seated and she was very vocal about how scared she was. The guy in front turned around and said it was nothing at all. She said "you've done this already?" He said yes...he then said "I was in Vietnam...you'll be fine" and that's all it took. We were off and now she can't wait to go on it every time we go back. It's what Disney is good at...smooth rides that give the sensation that they are more thrilling than they really are.

You want sick? Go to Mission Space Orange...now THAT will make your head spin!

Try it as your last ride of the day in case you don’t feel well afterwards. If you find you enjoy the ride, next time you can try it in the daytime. There are beautiful views on that coaster at night too!

I was afraid to ride it for years. When I turned 65 I said I was going to ride things I'd been afraid to before, and I love it now, It's not jerky, and has such a great queue and effects. I really looked around this last time at the highest point and it was stunning! Honestly, the backward part isn't the part that scares me-there is one drop that curves around a little to the left, and I am glad when it is over. It only lasts a couple of seconds though!

I like Everest! And I very intensely dislike RoR (to the point it was a one and done for me) And I will do Space Mountain ONCE on every visit. I sorta like it but I also have to repeat in my head that Disney has high safety standards......not sure if my personal comparison warrants consideration. :P

I like BMM, I do not like Space Mt or Everest. The backwards part on Everest bothered me the most.

I am kind of encouraged to try Everest after reading some of the posts. I have hated rollercoasters all my life and have finally started to try some smaller ones. I was so scared of The Mummy but finally rode it and now it don't get scared thinking about riding it. Hagrid's really scared me to ride, and when I tried it I was in the front row and beyond freaking out. Afterwards I loved it so much that I would gladly do it again. I will do Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, but the drop on Splash Mountain scare me still, lol. I will not try Hulk, Velocicoaster or Rip Ride Rocket. Maybe Everest won't be that bad, lol.

I hated it. it was as bad as space mountain, and I only wanted my chiropractor after. Never again.
