How important to get waitlisted for BWV TODAY vs. tomorrow?

We've made the decision to joing DVC at 200 points. :woohoo: We wanted to make our purchase on Friday morning, after we close on the refinancing for our house.

However, after quite a bit of thinking, reading books, and reading good advice on this board, I've decided that rather than buy into Saratoga Springs, I'd rather that we buy into Boardwalk Villas, even though we'll probably be waitlisted, because that is where we will want to go most of the time over the next 5-10 years (the brewery is a BIG draw for dh).

So, I call my assigned sales guy - who is really nice - to get on the waitlist and he is out of the office today, but will be back tomorrow. Should I wait for him to get back tomorrow, or would it be better to call the general number and get another sales person to get us on the waitlist for BWV?

Also, my sales guy is going on vacation from Wednesday, the 7th, through the 27th of the month. If we are on the waitlist and points become available while he is gone, will someone else be kind enough to call and close the deal with us? Does anyone know?

Poor timing on my part to finally decide to do this when the sales guy for my part of the country is going on vacation... :sad2:

TIA!

Cheers,
Elaine

I don't think a day will make much of a difference.

Good luck getting your points. If you were just buying a 25- or 50-point add-on, I'd imagine that you'd be able to get your points immediately, but you might have to wait a bit for 200 points. I hope it comes through for you quickly.

I don't think one day will make much of a difference. My guess is that they don't add people to the BWV point waitlist every day.

I'm assuming that you are aware of the ability to purchase BWV contracts through the resale market and have decided against that? It would be less expensive, and probably faster, than waitlisting through Disney.

I just got a 50 point add on in just a few days last week (at $92 at point)...

my rep was gone on vacation too but the paper work was sent by the general office--- and because he was gone I did not get a call that the points were ready....but instead got an email from my credit card company that the deposit had been posted to my account. It was exciting to see the points show up in my account so fast!

Disney is still paying closing costs --so a resale may not be all that much cheaper and most people say if you can get them from Disney in a timely manner-- it is less stressful than waiting for ROFR.

I'd like to try to go through Disney first, mainly because I've already made my agent work quite a bit - talking with me on the phone a few times - and also because I'd like to be able to avoid the ROFR process.

I was hoping that buying 150-200 points wouldn't really take that much longer than adding on, because I'm guessing that the points are coming in from contracts that Disney has purchased in the ROFR process - and those would usually be in the 150-300 range, right? And wouldn't it cost less for Disney to sell them all to 1 person in terms of time and processing costs? And I don't care about the use year - I'll take first available.

But, if the process through Disney appears to be taking a long time - fingers crossed that it won't - :bitelip: I'll head over the the Timeshare Store and make an offer there. :)

I wouldn't hinge a multiple thousand dollar purchase on whether or not a Disney employee has been on the phone a few times. :)

Seriously, investigate resale. You're going to get a better deal, the ROFR process isn't much more than waiting a couple weeks, and if the offer isn't ridiculously low you'll get through. The only downside is you have to provide your own financing, and you may have to deal with a contract that doesn't have all its points up front. (Those are the only things I can think of that you'd be better of with going through Disney.)

We went through the Timeshare store, it was a pretty easy process. We had a few hold ups on our end, but everything went great.

Well, we will need to finance part of it - although I hesitate to mention that here due to the rabidity of some posters on this issue. I'm crossing my fingers that I don't get blasted.

The other consideration is that I'd really like to book a vacation for March '07, and my understanding is that I'll be able to do that once Disney accepts our downpayment - even before they have all the paperwork signed and returned - whereas I wouldn't be able to make a reservation on a resale purchase through someone other than Disney until about a week after closing (which could be up to a month after ROFR - so not for a couple of months from now). Or am I misinformed?

All that being said, I am exploring what it would take to get financing and buy resale from the timeshare store.

There are many people who have happily financed through Disney, and while others can have an opinion it is clearly your decision. It appears that you're doing your homework and are happy with your direction. I only brought up resale to make sure you were aware of all your options.

Good luck in the purchase process. BWV is one of our home resorts and I hope everything works out well for you. :thumbsup2

I bought into DVC last year with a 210-point VWL contract. (Of course, addonitis has struck twice since then.) So it is doable. My guess is that demand for BWV points is somewhat higher than for VWL points, but as you said, it all depends on what has come in through ROFR.

Let us know what happens.

I made one call on Monday and the contract for Boardwalk was mine then. I couldn't believe it! On wednesday it was showing on my DVC computer screen with my other property. Thursday ,today ,the paperwork arrived. No waitlist here. I am thrilled. I can make a springbreak trip. Closing paid, no ROFT, I have bought both ways and I'm not saying I won't go private again but my goodness this was easy.

CONGRATULATIONS! I got 200 BWV points last Friday and just got my paperwork yesterday too. Dragged dh to the notary this morning and am off to pop them in the Fedex box in a few minutes. :sunny:
