how i met your mother - numbers

I think the point is that this is more than just a sitcom... it's actually not a sitcom... rather, it's a character comedy. Big difference.

As characters in their mid 30's (or close to mid), they should be doing a heck of a lot more than just drinking and goofing off.

They all have careers. They don't just drink and goof off. :confused3 Barney is probably the most juvenile character on there, but even he represents true life. I bet everyone reading this has someone in their life that will never grow up. My brother is going to be 40 this year, yet, he thinks he's still 18 and acts it.

Well, it is a comedy regardless. Endings like that do not belong in comedies.

Well, I can understand you perhaps preferring comedies that don't go to that level of depth, but whether endings like that "belong" in comedies is up to all the viewers to decide, each for themselves, and collectives in general.

Yes, they do but as mid 30's adults, they should not be hanging in bars reminiscing and acting like 20 year olds. I don't hang around with people who refuse to grow up.. they just wind up looking sad

Some of the characters in the show just start looking pathetic. The episode where Ted as a college professor shows up in a Halloween costume really bothered me.. I mean what about credibility? Sure thats a career but trying to be buddies with your undergrad students-- again pathetic.

The characters also have problems with careers relationships and depth. Most people in their mid 30's should have most of this resolved by them. The immaturity of the characters really grate on my nerves.

It is a character comedy not a situational comedy- there is a difference. I'm thrilled there is a depth to this now.. it was getting more shallow by the minute.

We thought it was going to be the countdown to Lily saying she was pregnant. Until his dad didnt answer the phone then I knew it was because he died. My DH was yelling at the TV about it.

Us too! :( So Sad really. A countdown to death, not good.:confused3

The big questions is, what was the significance of the number 50? The show is not 50 minutes long, so that can't be it. It didn't take him 50 days to die. Was his dad 50 years old? Maybe that's it, but since Marshall is already in his 30's and is one of the younger Erickson boys, that would not make sense. :confused3

I think the majority of my teachers, from elementary through high school, as well as a lot of the 30-40 something College Professors dressed up for Halloween.

The reason I like this show so much is that the characters are the same age as my friends and I, and I think they are portrayed very accurately. We've all been going through the same things with life that the HIMYM crew has been going through; having a single friend who sees everyone around them getting married and having kids, along with the fine line of learning how to balance marriage, work, kids, and still have the chance to go out to a bar with friends and have a little fun.

I'm not afraid to admit that I love that, as adults, we're allowed to still be kids.

Lily- and her unrealistic teachers wardrobe...

At least they addressed this, unlike other shows where people who shouldn't have a lot of money have an extravagant wardrobe. Lily has a credit problem.

As a teacher, I know what I can or can't afford. I don't buy on credit. I was happy that was explained and it was revealed as a problem. She shouldn't have got in that mess to begin with.. but I digress...

I think the characters in the show should grow up more. As much as I have enjoyed the show (loved it for a while), I feel as the characters get older they should be more mature-- and they aren't.. which is really bothering me.

I've just about sworn off the shown due to the immaturity of the characters. If Robin went off to be "dice babe" I would have sworn off it completely.

All the characters need to grow up a bit. Barney is looking a bit pathetic as the ladies man now.. all the girls are getting younger and he is older looking.. slightly creepy..

There really hasn't been much character development for Marshall, so this is a good thing.
