How hard to get standard view BWV?

Granted, I am not full speed on the ins and outs of DVC membership, but my one conversation with MS had to have been my least pleasant interaction with a Disney CM ever. (I have never had the feeling, this just after just a couple of minutes, that this person was really, really bored and annoyed with me for bothering him.)

Just how fast do the one bedroom standard-view BWV book? Is there a chance of availability six months out from now or do they tend to get snapped up at the 11 month and/or 7 month out dates? My daughter loves the BW/BC area, and I made reservations for Beach Club but it would be nice to save a few points and be in the same general area. What has your experiences been in getting reservations for the standard-view? Thanks!

While anything is possible with DVC reservations, the BWV standard view rooms are always the first to go. For most dates, if there is availability within 7 months, it's because of a cancellation.

In most cases, the waitlist is a viable opportunity to obtain a standard room, but that does require some patience. You may want to make a reservation for the dates you want at your home resort and then try to switch the reservation at 7 months. At least you'll have a reservation that way.

Good Luck!

I think someone says that the standard views are less than 20% (maybe 10%) of the rooms - so they aren't very many in the first place -

I have read various % quoted on the number of standard view rooms at BWV anywhere from 10-25%, there are definitely more preferred views and the standard views can definitely be tricky to get, but I have almost always gotten lucky with getting the standard view within the 5-8 month mark by being flexible with my dates and getting on waiting lists. Of course there have been times when I had to take a preferred view and times I requested a preferred view, but I have also had pretty good success with the standard views also. Flexibility with your dates is a big factor. Good luck!

I booked a 1-bedroom standard view for 1/12-1/17 last July (six months out). I had to waitlist Sunday 1/12 (MLK weekend) but it came through last week!

PS Last month I also waitlisted 1-bedroom standard for 1/26-1/31 but I haven't heard anything yet. BW standard points for those dates are the same as OKW, so I thought I would give it a shot, but I certainly don't mind another trip to OKW if waitlist doesn't come through!

I am looking to go May 25, 2003 through May 30, 2003.

Are studios, one bedrooms or two bedrooms any easier/harder than the others?

That's Memorial Day weekend, so probably the best you would be able to do is to waitlist at the 7 month mark and see what happens. I am told that studios are the hardest but I have never had a problem because I do 11 months on a day to day basis for the standard view rooms. Take Doc's advice.

Well, I can't do anything seven months out because it is only six months from today! I have my reservations at Beach Club, and really have a silly idea that I would prefer to stay at that DVC resort first since we just bought there. I'll keep the BWV in mind in the future when I have more time to plan ahead, but just was curious if particular unit was next to impossible or if one or more was more doable. (I am most interested in the 2 bedroom units.) If they have very few and BCV owners tend to reserve them 11 mos out then I just won't even factor that in as a possibility and will spend my time at the ones we have bought (OKW and BCV) with the occasional venture to VWL.

Standards at BWV do tend to book fully before 7 months out although some do get them 7 months out and cancellations do occur (particularly right around the 7 month window time when people are switching ressies out of their home resort to another). You have a particular problem next year at BWV as some of the standard view rooms will be out of service during the year for renovation (some are out even now).

Wew agree with pretty much all the advice given. If we can't get standard view at the time of booking, we book preferred and then waitlist for standard. We've always gotten it, but then again, we tend to book at 9-11 months and we have yet to go over Thanksgiving and Christmas.

A quote from an e-mail I got from DVC on May 23, 2002, when I was inquiring on the availability of a studio at BWV for dates January 21, 2003 through January 31, 2003. I still wouldn't have been able to make ressies until July 1st, so I'm sure this room was gone by then, And I believe January is an "off" time of year.

"Did you know that standard view rooms make up less than 10% of Disney's
BoardWalk Villas? Today, there is no standard studio available on January 22
and only one left from January 23-31. Chances are slim that you will be able to get one even if you go on the waitlist."

Since this is our first DVC trip I decided to stick with my home resort VWL. I may try the waitlist next year.

we already booked our 2003 trips at 11 months.

1st trip May 3-9, 2003 F&G trip at 1 week into our 11 month window in June BWV had No standard studios available don't know about 1-2 bed.

2nd trip Oct. 19- 23, 2003 F&W trip. This time I called day by day on Nov 21 thurs-22 fri -26 the following tues to get my 2 standard studios at BWV for Sun- thurs nights. I asked on Nov 26 if there were any standard studios left for the wk of Oct 19-23, 2003 and the CM said very few.

If you really want Standard rooms at BWV (I really believe you need to call day by day at 11 months) I forgot to for May trip by 1 week and they were all going. Good luck
