How hard to get into a "non-home" resort during summer months?

Just curious about why you say summer is not the most popular time for DVC members to travel?!?!? Now that we have DVC we will try to go somewhere over sp. break one day - but will still always want a week of vac. in the summer...

Points are higher and many DVC members have the luxury of being able to travel whenever they choose. Therefore avoiding the hurricane season, the hot, humid, days of summer with the parks being packed.

Peak time for DVC is October for Food and Wine and early December.

I did call once and as soon as the CM answered I could tell from her tone she was having a bad day. I just said, excuse me wrong number and called back and got someone very pleasant.

Too funny Sammie. Too funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl2:

Also, I just looked into a June booking and July booking. Two bedroom. July, every DVC was open, right up to BWV B view. No problem. However, was looking at some dates in June (two bedroom) OKW, SSR and surprisingly VWL were available but both BCV and BWV were a total cut and paste.

We've taken two trips - first of June and end of July/first of August for the past 3 years and oh. my. goodness. is there ever a world of difference between the weather in early June and the weather in late July/August. July/August is totally "suck-the-life-out-of-you" hot. :cool2: I am not suprised that many DVC owners decide they don't want to experience it!

I grew up in Florida & still live in the south, so I tolerate it a little better than some people probably do - but I am eagerly awaiting :rolleyes1 some sort of balanced school schedule that will give us a week in the fall, a mid-winter week, and spring break.

Okay I'm back on it. I'm all words!!! :lmao: I just told a MS CM on Thursday, "that was such a wonderful call. Thanks so much". It's that one call I had that makes me appreciate the others' work even more than I already did.

Whoops. I went off topic for a bit. AAnnie....thanks for the reply. Great discussion.

Okay actual question. I truly don't believe summer will ever be a "big" problem. However, there are a lot of young families joining DVC these days. So that could change everything.

I booked BCV less than 5 months out last July without a problem. However, it was one bedroom. And one bedrooms, at every DVC, are the easiest bookings.

And as others have said HHI is so popular in the summer.

I have points at SSR. I have points at BWV. BWV is my favourite resort. But I'm not a planner and everyone is equal at 7 months. So this is a good balance. BWV points for when I can force myself to plan and for high demand times. And SSR for everything else...less than seven months out (which includes SSR stays!!!) Maybe you should consider a split like this.

Best of luck,

Lisa

We just purchased in Nov. I have a 10 yr and 5 yr old. Will I go in summer, well I might hit WDW and a couple of days at VB right after school is out in early June. July & August??? No, but you might catch us at HH.

Thanksgiving trip looks like it will be a standard, and I'll splurge and do spring break most years. Bought enough points to handle 2 trips with one during premier time.

We plan catching some small trips planned around kids school calender, like our early May trip.

Ain't that the truth. I'm like a vampire on these trips. Hang out in the days for sure. But then again there is nothing like Florida summer nights!!! Nothing.

There are a lot of members trying to get BCV for early to mid-June right now. And they are not having that much luck. If you want a non-home resort you probably need to make that reservation at 7 months exactly.

I got BCV after 7 months ...probably around 6 months but they were for Fri and Sat nights (already had the rest with my BCV contract)

Wouldn't normally do late Aug. either BUT the pts. drop 8/16 & we're trying to bank as many as we can into the following yr. to put toward a cruise...so will suffer thru it w/ lots of pool time & spray water bottles! Besides, we'd rather have the heat & humidity than a hurricane any day! :beach:

Hurricane Season is June - Nov... You know that, right? I have left Disney because a Hurricane Charley was headed straight for Orlando and I-95 was opening up for Northbound exiting out of Flordia. We received a call the afternoon before they were opening the Interstate up, from my parents, they had just talked to the Highway Patrol. We were at MGM Studio's. We had to immediately leave and check out and head for home. We arrived home at 1:00 AM. When I got up and turned my TV on, all the traffic was bumper to bumper heading out of Flordia. That was the year that Flordia received four Hurricanes.

We always go in Aug. and yes, it's HOT & HUMID! We get AP's and go the last half of Aug. the first trip and the first half the next year. The heat doesn't really bother us. We just expect it! :beach:

We hope to get there at Christmas one of these times, so we will get 3 trips out of an AP! When our son gets older, we will be able to go at non-school conflicting times.:dance3:

We were there that year too! We flew in the morning after one of them. We were there for about 14 days and missed the next one by a couple of days! Whew! We sure were lucky!:goodvibes

We always called August and Sepetmber "mean season" because of the hurricanes/tropical storms. Later August is worse. "Free Dining" is usually offered for the worst weeks of hurricane season (Aug-Sept).

 Of course we know when hurricane season is - we get the remnants of plenty of them here in the DC area...and have had our share of crappy weather on previous vacations at MD & DC beaches because of them. I was just trying to say that we're willing to risk the heat & humidity & threat of hurricanes in late Aug. this yr. to save some extra pts. to bank - and if given a choice between hurricanes and the heat & humidity we'd rather have the heat than be chased out by some yet unnamed storm! We'll be praying for the heat & humidity 'cuz it's the lesser of 2 evils!!

When I first saw Disney offering the "Free Dining" I said, "Attendance is down after the year of the 4 Hurricanes." We live on the Coast, I watch the weather every day during Hurricane Season. We had Hurricane Hugo in 1989, a direct hit. The eye actually at our house. It is not a fun thing to experience. We did not evacuate, because it was suppose to be a Cat 2 and became a very strong Cat 4 right before landfall. My heart went out to Flordia that year.
