How hard is it to manage Disney bought & secondary points?

Hubby wants GF as our Home Resort so we are considering buying from Disney for those points.

I can see us buying Secondary points to add on down the road.

How hard is it to manage two different kinds of points in whatever tool DVC gives users to manage points? For example, if we wanted to go to Disneyland Paris, will the tool show me how many points i have that are eligible vs ineligible?

I don't think that's really a big problem. When you see the points cost non-DVC hotels, you won't do it.

For the one non-DVC option that you might actually use (RCI), it makes no difference whether your points were purchased direct or resale. Either one can be used for RCI exchanges.

A much more problematic issue would be if your add-on was either titled differently, or had a different Use Year. In that case it would be a separate DVC account and combining the points for a reservation anywhere would be more difficult.

We have points at seven different resorts, some bought from Disney, others on the resale market. And four use years. Never a problem for us using the online tools. I find it very easy to manage.

All it takes is one booking mistake using different accounts or UY's and you will wish that you had just one.

IMO you shouldn't make your ownership more complicated that it has to be unless you have the experience and a good reason to do so.

JimMIA knows what he is talking about above.

It's not a big deal, esp if you don't buy planning to use the for DCL or other cash type exchanges, which you shouldn't buy in planning to do IMO. As a rule it's better to buy resale first in this situation if you can.

The only tool provided to DVC member is the actual booking site, which is real easy to use, but it is strictly for DVC resorts. The Availability Tool only shows what DVC villa types are available up to the the 11 month mark, and no points are given. And downloadable point charts. So for DLRP you would only have the point chart. You make those reservations by calling MS.

We have 7 contracts which are combined resale and direct purchase. We use a spreadsheet to keep track of which points are going where and which points need to be used because they will expire.

We have both DVC bought and resale points in different UYs at one resort.
I also, have two different logons to the DVC Members web-site due to the contracts being titled differently. I just created an Excel speadsheet, maintain my points on it, keep detail records of trips, and which points are being used with which trip. The speadsheet does not take more than 2 minutes per trip to update.

If your name is listed the same on both, you should be able to see them both under your login. If not you may want to discuss with member admin to see if they can get you able to see both under one login. You still wouldn't be able to use them together directly but at least you wouldn't have 2 logins for DVC and possibly MDE.

Would you be willing to send me a sample spreadsheet to see how you manage them?

DW and I are on both the direct and resale contracts. The problem is the resale contracts have both my adult DDs names. No they will not allow one log on for me due to the different titled contracts.
Yes, I have multiple DVC and MDE site logons due to having to manage the contracts separately. I am having all kinds of issues with MDE due to not allowing me to have my annual passes on both accounts.
MDE is NOT designed for me and I have spent count less hours on the phone with them explaining my issues and not having my issues dealt with. MDE does say that DVC sales both direct and resale are causing them issues behind the scenes.

Others have reported being able to see multiple masters under one log in when they were listed on them even if the other names were different. As for myself, I have 2 master contracts and they are not the same, my daughter is one one but not on the other. However, they were together and seen before we changed the title so that might be different. If you haven't checked thoroughly, I would, if you've already beat your head against that wall then you'll have to decide whether to try again. The qualifying factor should be that your name is listed the same on both.

Just got off the phone with MS-Admin:
They informed me that due to having different names on the contracts they can NOT combine my memberships under one account.

Others have reported being able to do so when they bought with different people on the title, I wonder if this is more the retail vs resale situation than anything else. However, let me make sure we're on the same page. There really are 2 issues. One is being able to see both on one sign on for the member site and the other are actually combining under one account. What I was discussing and thought I was clear on was being able to see both for one sign on. That is different than having them under one account which is not possible. Maybe it's your wording that that's really what you meant but I wanted to be sure we were talking about the same thing.

DVC security policy will not let different owners on different contracts have access to the same account.

But that's not applicable here, the issue is a single owner having access to what they own. They do have the ability to give one person online access to multiple accounts through a single add on and another owner only access to the ones they own. I know others have reported having access to multiple masters when the title was different but they were on all accounts in question and I too have that option though my circumstance is a little different as I noted. When my daughter sings on she only sees the accounts she listed on.

Yes, we are talking about the same thing. I can not "see" both my accounts/information with one sign-on to the member web-site. According to MS, I have to have different accounts due to different membership numbers.
I have OKW Jun UY that DW and I are on.
I have OKW Feb UY that DW, our two DDs, and I are on.
MS inclduing the tech side are telling me they can not set me up with one log in for the two memberships.

This is either a legal issue (different ownership) or a technical issue (the website just can't handle it), but it is clearly not a retail/resale issue.

Did you contact Member admin or IT for technical issues as opposed to MS? I find MS doesn't always know about non-typical things.
