How hard is it to get the reservation you want?

Another question I have is: How hard is it to get the reservation you want. If we buy we are likely going to go during school breaks but not the summer, since that is my husband's busy season. Which means late December, February and April. So is it usually easy to get the reservation you want? I am assuming that most people book at their 11 month advance window. But what if I don't think I can go then and have to wait and see? Which DVC resorts book faster?
Thanks!

The smallest of the DVC resort will go first: Beach Club and Wilderness Lodge. Easiest to get are Saratoga and Old Key West. If you can't book several months in advance though, DVC might not be for you. You really DO need to book in advance to get the room you like or sometimes even to get ANY room! Currently there are NO studios available for the beginning of December. Maybe only 1 or 2 at different resorts. You can't get 4 days in a row for the first 3 weeks of December and it's 3 months away. Just some food for thought.

As far as what fills faster than others majority of the year: (a) Grand Villas at any of the resorts that have them; (b) at Boardwalk, preferred boardwalk view and lower point cost standard view; preferred pool or garden is usually open even at 7 months for the majority of the year; (b) at AKV, concierge rooms and possibly low point cost value rooms; savanna view is usually open at the 7 month window; (c) at BLT, MK view and lower point cost standard; (d) Beach Club and Wilderness lodge villas tend to be difficult at 7 months because with fewer rooms than others they get filled faster; (e) SSR is usually open well beyond the 7 month window and OKW very often is, but at any time of year you should never assume it will be easy to get something if you wait well beyond the 7 month window to reserve.

In additon, the three times you mention are not among those majority times of year and are instead very high demand times. For Christmas week you should reserve 11 months out because otherwise you face the risk of waitlisting and then hoping to get anything; if by April you mean one of the two Easter weeks you face a similar problem as Christmas although usually if you call 10 months out you can still have success; for other spring break weeks in April you can wait longer before reserving but not much and the same would be true of Presidents week in February.

Thank you. There is so much to consider: when we want to go, how many points we are able to buy hence how long we can stay, can we actually get the room we want when we want, banking and borrowing points and then of course UY. Thank goodness for this board!

I want DVC but in the end it (gasp) might not be the right choice for us! But that is a long and hard decision that may take a full year of research to decide.

Better to take the time and run through all the facts and numbers rather than jump in and then find out it's not going to work. DVC will still be here in a year waiting for you. (although the prices may be a little higher.)
