How hard is it to get reservations?

Hi, I'm new here and would really appreciate some good advice. Me and the DW are heading down to WDW in May provided the baby boy due in March is born safe and sound. We wanted to rent points to stay at BWV. How far ahead of time is good to make reservations for BWV to stay there the last week in May? I'd like to get rent points to stay there but don't know if doing it in Mid=March is enough time. Any advice would really be apprec-ated. Thanks

Hard to tell. DVC doesn't release any occupancy figures, so it's difficult to predict patterns at any but the busiest periods (when we KNOW resorts will be booked solid several months in advance.)

DVC is hosting a Member Gathering the week you appear to be targeting, and that may not work in your favor. The Gathering has most certainly caused some people to change plans and book a stay during that last week in May.

If you don't mind my saying so two months after your son is born is probably not the ideal time to travel. Children that age usually aren't sleeping through the night, and he will probably still be wanting to eat every 4-6 hours.

I'm assuming that you're a first time parent. If it means anything coming from a guy that's lived through it twice, wait a few extra months before planning any getaways. I'm not so much worried about the child as I would be yourself and your wife. Living with a 2MO can be daunting enough without piling a Disney trip on top.

And if this ISN'T your first child, and you still want to give Disney a shot with a 2MO, well all I can say is that you're a braver man than I am.

Hey thanks, I can't fault your logic either. Vacation with the little guy may not be too much of a vacation.

We may still do it since a large part of our family will be down there that week. I also really wanted to check out BWV because I want to become a DVC member when we go down there, but I want to see if I should buy someone else's membership at BWV or just go throught Disney and get my home resort at the new one.

Forgot the most important part of my post. Good luck with your little one. He will change your life in ways you cannot even imagine.

With regard to the trip, having family around will definitely help. My main concern would simply be how exhausing the trip may be for you, as opposed to being a vacation. For example, if the baby decides he wants to eat from Midnight to 2am, and again around 6am, are you still going to be prepared to take on the parks?

If your wife will be breast feeding, the trip may be very difficult for her as you will be of limited help. If he will be bottle fed, try to establish some guidelines for when the two of you and/or family members will take "shifts" to keep everyone well rested.

Daily temps will be in the 90s by that point, so you'll probably want to discuss the heat with your pediatrician to get some pointers.

If you're prepared to have your entire trip dictated by the little one, you should be OK.
