How handle other familymembers not understanding our joy?

DSIL really doesn't get why we go on any vacations. I hate to even tell her when we have another planned. Her DS is 5 and has never ever stayed in a hotel or gone on any kind of vacation! He had to ask us "what's that?"and pointed to a suitcase! She really doesn't get Disney!!! I just minimize what we tell her.

I dont have too much trouble with people not understanding Disney because unfortunately we dont get to go all that often, but we do cruise at least once a year and usually twice.. We get comments all the time.. I just learned to ignore it.. Usually the comments are "Dont you EVER get tired of cruising?".. My response is "NOPE.. "

Hi everyone! This is my first posting and I'm very excited! When I read this thread, I realized that's exactly the reaction I get when I tell people we're going to WDW for our honeymoon.

Since I was a child, my parents brought my family every other year. Since I've moved out and have gotten married, I have gone back every few years! My latest trip was with an aunt, a cousin, and a sister! A real girls week! Now that I'm going for my (belated) honeymoon, all my friends think I'm crazy for going back and think I should go somewhere I've never been!

Doesn't everyone know that you can go around the world! Paris, London, Japan, China, Moracco!?!?

P.S. I'm so excited to be a part of the forum! You all are great!
Hello and Welcome to the DIS!!!!
Hope you have a wonderful belated honeymoon in the best place in this world!!!!!! :wave2:

Chances are if they went just once, they'd understand the thrill and excitement of going again. It is a family atmosphere and everyone has fun. I wouldn't worry about their remarks too much, as long as you and DH are in agreement then there is no room for Grumpy people! Maybe one year they will decide to tag along and see what the fuss is all about...

DH and I went to MK the day after we got married to kick off our honeymoon! We had a blast, and now go back every May for our Anniversary! :goodvibes

what a perfect way to begin a marriage! I can't wait to watch Wishes from the California Grill. We happen to be on our honeymoon during my birthday, so he's taking me to dinner to watch the fireworks! I can't wait...I just need to learn how to start a countdown till my trip! Have a Magical Day!

You know what's interesting...a lot of people take vacations to the same places every year. For instance I live in NJ....where do you think everyone goes for vacation during the summer ....the Jersey Shore of course. I doubt they get the "you're going again" line.

How about the people that go to Vegas all the time or the bahamas for a quick trip.

These people will never get the idea of Disney. Nor would I want them around me in Disney when I am there.

I am in my mid 30's and have had "adult" responsibilities since I was about 8 or 9 years old. I have a very stressful job and am in the public eye a lot. Disney is the only place I can go, feel comfortable and forget about things even if it is just for a few days. When I get back the the real world I am a much better person.

Bottom line .....my new attitude is I don't give a rat's "tusshie" what other people think.

Disney is to be or not to be. Disney is about the year long day dreaming of the magic. We spend more time planning, talking, discussing, laughing, reliving the memories of Disney than we do actually going there.

For DVC members, the member get togethers are great because you are surrounded by people who love what Disney is all about. Staying young, believing the world can be better than it really is.

Wouldn't it be great if the whole world worked like WDW. Clean, safe, fun, beautiful and magical - it does not get any better.

My husband also does not want to go to Disney, but I desperately need this trip. After the last few years Ive had, no vacation could ever do what this one will for my morale. Wish that your family was as understanding as mine. The magic of Disney really can help people. I believe this, that is why I am going.

I would tell them to mind their own buisness.

I hear the same from people at work.

They make comments like "why are you going back again?", "why spend all that money".

This comes from people who have big time family problems, are have been through several divorces ( like 4), their kids are on drugs.

I always want to tell them that maybe thier life wouldnt be so screwed up if they had taken a few family vacations.

My sister and brother in law waited until their boys were out of the house before they went to Disney.
They have been there once and that was enough for them.
We continue to go back and take our children. Our DD missed it the last time due to college and work schedule. She was not happy. Neither were we.
We love to have all our kids with us down there.

BTW, that is why I DIS. Everyone here understands our love of all things DISNEY.

My sister...goes on cruises all the time. Good for her...I never tell her not to go. In fact, she and her husband are going on a cruise through the Panama Canal. Does not interest me in the least. I hope they have a great time.

Me, I'd rather be on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad with my 8 year olds hands in the air, screaming around the corners.

We have the same problem.

People always saying, why go to WDW you were just there last year and besides the place can't change that much?

My standard reply is twofold. First, We have a great time, Second Why do you go to the "beach"(or fill in the blank) it can't really change that much? That really seems to shut down the person I am speaking with. :)
