How fun is the Wii, should I keep it

OK, so I'm standing in Best Buy this morning looking at the DSLite games (my kids are getting the dslite for Christmas) and a best buy employee pulls out this cart with a bunch of boxes on it. I'm looking at them, and the guy says "yes, they are actually the Wii, we just got some in". So I grab one.

We got the Xbox360 last year and my kids are getting the dslites this year. So I don't need a Wii, and I didn't have any intention on buying a Wii, but I grabbed one just because I had heard they were so hard to find, and I was standing right there (they were gone within 5 minutes).

So, now we are trying to decide if we are going to keep it, or return it.

How much fun is the Wii? I'd like to hear what people who have the system think about it. And if you do like it, what games do you like.

Thanks for the input.

How old are your children? If they are old enough to be playing the 360 a lot, then I doubt you NEED the Wii.

BUT the system is awesome. Most of the hype around it has come from people playing it themselves and then really wanting them. Plus it is an active system that gets them moving.

But if your kids haven't asked for one and they play the 360, then you probably don't need it. You can go to your local gameStop and try it out for yourself (just ask the employees for the wiimotes).

I suggest you find someone that has one and try their's first.

You can check out the thread in my signature if you want game recommendations and to see how much people are enjoying their Wiis. :) (The answer is: a lot!!)

What games I like may not be the right ones for your family. So in the thread I try to give suggestions for different ages/groups/types of games.

don't open it, keep the sales slip and ebay that sucker..

If you have a 360 and you kids are gamers (which sounds like) then go that way and sell the Wii

We have Wii and 360. Wii is "cute" but honestly a waste. Was a gift from our in laws and we are just going to give it back because more grandchildren are at their house then ours, so it will get more use.

So sell it, pocket the profits and off you go..

DD10, just spent the past saturday at her cousins house play with the Wii they had. We have, currently hooked up, a Xbox, playstation 2, and a GameCube. She doesn't play on the Xbox and PS2 hardly at all. She plays more on the GC. She spend a good 4 hours on the Wii, off and on during the 7 hr cookie baking session going on. She loved it. Kicked her 30 year old cousins butt in bowling.

But I don't forsee us getting a Wii any time soon, as there is a Xbox360 wrapped and under the tree this year. Maybe next year, we can convince her dad to get one for her.

If your kids have a Gameboy and love the Mario style of games, keep it. It will get used. I think it is a very good system for younger kids and adults who aren't into the RPG style of games. I can't remember the last time I played any of the game systems.

I don't think the Wii is "cute." I'm 27, have been a gamer since I could remember and totally prefer my Wii to my 360. :p

But that's what I'm saying, if your kids are in their teens and are content with the 360 and have not shown any interest in the Wii, then don't buy (keep) one just cuz everyone else is doing it.

My DS(13) had to have the Wii..in October.
He played it for about 2 weeks, and has not touched it sense.

I did buy him 3 games for the Wii for Xmas, one being Guitar hero 3, I hope then the Wii will be used more often.

He is continually on the PS2....and I wished I would have saved the $$$ on the Wii and put it towards a PS3..that he really really really wanted.

OR make up some sob story about your kids misbehaving just before christmas and see if you can get 9k for it on ebay. (this was said with my tongue firmly in my cheek)

TORONTO - A Canadian man who said he sold his 15-year-old son's prized video game, a Christmas gift, on eBay after catching him smoking marijuana has sparked an online debate on who is wrong — father or son.

The unidentified man decided to punish his son by selling the popular and hard-to-find Guitar Hero III videogame he had bought him for Christmas for $90 on the auction site where an Australian buyer bid $9,100. It was not known if the sale at that price actually proceeded.

"I had finally got the Holy Grail of Xmas presents pretty much just in the nick of time. I couldn't wait to spread the jubilance to my son," the father said in a letter accompanying the posting on eBay.

"Then, yesterday, I came home from work early and what do I find? My innocent little boy smoking pot in the backyard with two of his delinquent friends."

The seller, who describes himself as an elementary school teacher but could not be contacted to verify his story, said that by selling the game he intended to teach his son a lesson.

But whether true or not, the five-day auction, that ended on Dec 10, elicited more than a 100 comments.

Some sided with the disgruntled father and others accusing him of "publicly humiliating" his son.

The father has since updated the posting with more responses to the feedback, including accusations that the sale was a hoax.

"All I can do is assure you that yes, the auction is real," he said on the site.

No one from eBay was available to comment.

"I am still considering getting him a game for his Nintendo. Maybe something like Barbie," added the father.

Sounds like he needs more mature games. Does he have Zelda or Metroid? Those would be great games for his age.

I honestly would not recommend the Wii for most teenagers. The system is really geared for hardcore Nintendo fans (me), young families and senior citizens (yep, it's this huge movement). Most teens want more mature, longer games than the Wii offers (at least in abundance, there are some games like this and more coming).

I got him Madden 08, NBA 08, and Guitar Hero.. He only has Wii sport, and Wii play at this time.

He usually only plays the sport theme games on PS2, unless some of his friends sneak Grand Theft Auto or other games NOT to be played in my house.

Ya, I know, I am an old ogre!

My kids are 6 and 8. My dd6 never plays the Xbox, doesn't like the games. My ds8 plays it and my dh plays it.

I was actually thinking the Wii would be something I would enjoy.

My dh and I are going to a friends house Friday night for Wii, hot tub and margarita night, so maybe I'll keep it until then and see how much we enjoy theirs.

Thanks for the advice.

We got a wii this summer. It hasn't been played since before Halloween. I got my kids some new games for it for Christmas and if they don't start playing it I will sell it to my friend in Florida.

My son is the real gamer and he much prefers the 360. I kind of like the mario game for Wii, forget which one but other then that it's just OK.

We are a family of gamers and our Wii gets used all the time. My kids are three, six, and 11, all three of them love to play it. It's at my moms right now, we took it over for Thanksgiving - everyone played it, from my kids to my grandmother! We're stealing it back on Christmas.:cool1:

That's why then. The sport games graphics aren't that great on the Wii, they are much better on the 360 or PS3. Though hopefully he will enjoy Madden and GH should be a hit.

Those are the perfect ages for the Wii especially as an item to be used by the whole family together.

I wanna come to your hot tub/Wii night! We do that with friends at least once a month, but without the hot tub. (Including the margarita's though! ;) )

We're a family of gamers (Gamecube, XBox, XBox360, Playstation, Playstation 2, Wii...etc.), and the Wii is used more than any other toy in our home. I don't think we've turned the Playstations on in months, and the XBox360 gets more use as our DVD player.

DD8 (9 next month) and DS4 would spend hours on it if we'd let them. Our house has become game station central for the kids' friends, and we've started having Wii afternoons where adults and kids alike get into the action.

Some of the kids' favorite games are Raving Rabbid, Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario. Wii Sports is still my favorite. Can't think of what other games are being played right now. We belong to GameFly, so there's always something new floating around.
