How flexible are the chefs??

:charac2: Help us?? My boyfriend is a vegetarian, and does eat some fish (although he is pretty picky - he's one of those "plain" food eaters). I'm planning our PS's, and I've got most of the week covered. However, I'd like to eat at the Poly and at WL. Artists Point seems to have a lot of meat, and foget about doing O'hana. But perhaps we can work in Kona or Whispering Canyon, but still... I'm worried that with those (and possibly my other PS's) my DBF won't find anything he'd be willing to eat on the menu.

Do any of ou know, can they modify a dish? For instance, I saw a lot of fish dishes that he would eat if it weren't for the bacon or prociutto (sp?) added to it. Can they leave that kind of thing off? Or can he ask for just a plain grilled tuna steak or something? Lots of rare Ahi tuna (which I love, but he hates). I saw the thread about vegetarian dishes, but most of them were counters or casual lunch places. I'm looking for fine dining. And although I do have Coral Reef, Under the Sea and Fulton's Crab House, I would like to have an evening at the Poly and WL.

Any ideas?? I'm willing to ask the servers, but I don't want them to think we're annoying freaks from another planet.

Will he eat salmon? It is the signature dish at Artist Point, and theirs is the best I've ever had. It's prepared on a cedar plank with no sauce. I would think a picky eater would find more they enjoyed at AP than WCC. JMO I can't help with the Poly. We've had dinner at O'hana and it remains in the top 2, of the most disappointing meals we've ever had at WDW. :( We're trying Kona Christmas Eve, but we're going for a late breakfast. I do think that most of the WDW chefs will accomodate his needs. Have a great trip! :)

Kona Cafe has a macadamia crusted fish (I think mahi mahi) as well as a stir-fried vegetable and rice dish served in a wonton bowl. They are both very good.

Most of the chefs at Disney area GREAT when it comes to special orders. If you can give thema 24hr heads up all the better otherwise let them know when you are seated and usually a chef will come talk to you personally about concerns or needs.

Hope this helps

Dave

:D I appreciate all your responses... I'll be sure to let them know ahead of time. It can't hurt!

Also, my B/F loves Mahi Mahi.

Thanks!

You can view online menus at allearsnet.com. They were invaluable when I was planning our November trip. Have a great time!

I just read on another thread that 'Ohana will provide tofu and grilled veggie skewers. They also have shimp. We're not vegetarians, but I might ask for the tofu and veggies on our next dinner.

My DH is a vegetarian. Almost every sit-down restaurant has a good vegetarian menu item. Which is good for him since he is an 'order off the menu, I don't want to talk to a chef' type of guy. When we were there a year ago he thought the Kona Cafe was very good, but they have changed their menu since then. Dh didn't want to go to 'Ohana (or the luau!?) due to the display of the meat and gusto of those eating it in the restaurant. This might be something you might want to consider...

That made my day! I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat beef or pork (just chicken, fish and turkey). I really, really wanted to visit O'hana, but that just would have never worked for either of us. But, if they can do veggie, tofu and shrimp skewers, then it would work! My boyfriend eats tofu. Now the next questions is, when do I request this? When I make my ps's? Or when we sit at the table? Call ahead?

Thanks so much guys - you all are great! :cheer2:

The bottom line is that with at least one day advance notice, the chefs are very clever and imaginative. Not only will they alter the menu item, they will "spice" it up with creative items that your hubby can eat. We've done this quite a few times over the years, and have never been disappointed. I think secretly, or not so secretly, the chefs revel in getting to use their imaginations. Again, the key is advance notice. Several days notice may enable the chefs to get items they wouldn't normally have or order. Have a great trip!

The thread that I read said that the tofu and veggies was brought out after the server notcied that one of their party wasn't eating. Here is it:

I would call 'Ohana to make sure that you don't have to request it in advance. You'll be able to eat the Turkey and Shrimp skewers too. Just tell your server to skip the Beef and Pork.
