How fast do you go in Alaska?

This is something ai love when the ship goes fast. How fast does it go between Vancouver and Tracy arm? Tracy Arm to Skagway? Skagway to Juneau? Juneau to Ketchikan? Just curious and I know it's a picky questions but if you remember anything thanks!

When it could go fast, it was going the 20+ knots and you could feel it, started after departing the harbor in Vancouver up until getting close to Tracy Arm, and full speed that last day at sea.

Agreed.... but once you enter the passages and Tracy Arm.... the ships slows down for maneuverability.

Pixie Dust has its limits.

How bad are the seas? Rough or calm?

Except for the time you leave Vancouver until you get into the Inside Passage, the water is very calm. There is land on both sides of you most times. Depending on your itinerary you will mostly stay in the passage.

Day 2 and 6 will be the roughest when you are in unprotected waters. The rest will be peaceful.

The water is very calm, almost like glass! Once in the inside passage, you don't go particularly fast. We were actually moving when I took this photo from Deck 4 on the second day of our cruise. I also took a screenshot of the location data for the photo so you can see we were in a narrow passageway. There were a couple of times that day that it felt like you could reach out and touch the shore. Certainly you could have thrown a rock and hit the shore at times - no exaggeration.

The 2 days at sea had the boat rocking so that even crew felt it. It was our first cruise, only my 16 yr old felt seasick--the free meclizine samples by the health center made her feel better. It is completely calm from about 10AM Tracy Arm day and for all the travel between the Alaskan ports--as all that was in the inside passage.

Totally not related: Your picture alone makes me want to go back on that cruise. I think I have that same photo from our trip. I loved that section (and day) of the cruise. It was SO peaceful and tranquil.

Thanks and sorry about the interruption.

It's a long way from Vancouver to Alaska, so you'll be doing 20 knots pretty much all the way up and all the way back. As others have said, it'll be more casual in the inside passage.

Please DON'T pound on the bridge door and to tell the captain to slow down.
