How far is too far in advance

We've talked about adjoining rooms, not for fear that the girls will grow apart (the 'dad's' have been best friends for 30 years) but for privacy for both families. Would it be significantly cheaper than a suite? Is it worth it for the decrease in square footage/layout?

We're planning for May 2012 already, so it's not too early.

Many people plan far in advance, We are not part of that group. We may know 8-10 months before hand our travel dates, planing starts the week before if that. Only exception is we do look right away if there are any special events going on during travel dates that has our interest. Some special events book early and fill fast.

I booked back in September for November 2012. I already have times and restaurants and I can't book them until May 27.
