what if you don't have a car? how much does it cost to take a taxi to the town hall or wherever you have to go to get your marriage license? thanks! :)

Hi
There are 2 I think, one at Osceola courthouse in Kissimmee, and one in downtown Orlando.
We went to Downtown Orlando.
We were staying on international drive before the wedding and din't have a hire car, so we took at taxi from our hotel, he waited 30 minutes for us whilst we went in & got it, and then he took us to Disneyworld to start our week there, it cost us $90.
I am not sure of the distance from Disneyworld to Kissimmee courthouse, maybe someone else would know, but I didnt think $90 was bad as we were using him for a good hour and more.

We used a Wedding for You ($190). They do it by mail. About 2 months before or so we sent them our paperwork, then they mailed back the papers to sign infront of a notery. Then we just mailed them back again. They took them to the courthouse, and our license was sent right to our EM. Much much less stress. And I didn't have to worry about if we remembered to bring it to the ceremony or anything else all done.

I should have done what Melmel did. For what we spent messing about and taxi fares, it cost just as much. I would seriously look into that if I were you.

We went to the SWAN/Dolphin and rented a car from National (i think it's National) for one day. We paid 34$ total like 50$ or something with tax and ended up getting a White Seabring Convertible!!! it was FAB! and we had a GREAT time!

It really is too far for a taxi! very $$ that's why we rented for the day :) And then we ran some errands since we had the car for 24hrs! :)

We went to the Osceola County Courthouse in Kissimmee. It was about a 35-40 minute drive (with construction) from the Grand Floridian. We arrived when it opened and the whole process took about 5 minutes (there was no wait). It was a sorta neat thing....I'm glad we did it in person instead of doing it by mail....I didn't want to miss out on even 1 iota of the whole wedding experience, lol. Having said that, we did have our own car so that made it very convenient....it would be pretty expensive to take a taxi there and back.

We too went to Osceola County, we were staying at the Boardwalk. It took us about 40 minutes each way. However, we went in the afternoon (we used a friends car who came for the wedding), so we had to wait over an hour in line. We knew it was recommended that you go early, but we were happy for the car instead of renting one for the day. We stopped at the Super Wal-Mart and picked up a few groceries so it worked out fine.

Another thing, like others have mentioned: we were there before they opened and then the FIRST people in the room and it took us less than 5 minutes!! timing is everything!! and it is fun to do it in person :)

Which is easier to get to, less crowded, nicer do you think?

Also, is it like the DMV? Confusing as to which line to stand in.

Any hints, advice, insight, info would be most appreciated!

Like get there early. Go to the 2nd floor, etc

thanks!

We asked and they said that Osceola was closer than Orlando considering downtown traffic.... not sure of the validity of this statement...but we did go to Osceola- everyone was nice and it took no time at all.

We are doing ours by mail through Brevard County Courts. It is costing us $93.50. They do it the same way as "a wedding for you", but for $100.00 cheaper. If you are concerned about the transportation and time issue, you may want to look into this option.........Good Luck!

in the old HISTORIC courthouse? (which is so pretty)

or the new building?

thanks!!

Tinkbride, I seem to be tagging along with you! :rotfl:

We're also doing our marriage license through the mail with Brevard County Courthouse. It's been a super easy process and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking to save some time and money! If you've got a few months before your wedding, it's definitely the route to go.

We just sent back our wedding application with the fees a week or so ago, so we're just waiting for our license to arrive!

Here's a thread that has all of the details about the process:
