We have never been to WDW before,so i was wondering just how far they let people into the castle? THANKS!

You can walk straight through it and there is dining inside of it, (bottom floor level) but you can't go up in any of the floors. The exterior is wonderful to look at but the interior is actually disappointing I believe they use the upper floors for storage and stage items. Maybe a CM can enligten us on what else is located in the upper part of the Castle.

you walk through the middle. There is a restaurant in there but its really just a tunnel like hallway.
So all the way through but there isnt much in there.

I've seen the Travel Channel program on WDW a few times and they say on there origionally the upper part of the castle was supposed to be an apartment for Walt Disney and his family. But since he died before the Magic Kingdom was completed, that area housed the phone operators for many years. I'm not sure what they use it for now though.

CRT/Cinderella's Royal Table
(restaurant) has a Great Hall to the left side of the castle...it isn't uncommon to be greeted by Cinderella and her Fairy Godmother when the Royal Page calls your name, you may either ride the Royal Elevator to the second floor Banquet Hall or take the carpeted Spiral Staircase to the second floor. The Hall is beautiful with large stained glass windows that over look Fantasyland. Making a PS to have lunch or dinner is well worth the price. This is also where they have the Character Breakfast, you can meet many of the Princess.

So can my DDs go in the lobby area and see the Fairy Godmother or is that only for Breakfast dining guests?

Only for meal guests. There is a podium outside that you have to check into first before entering. I would imagine it would be mass chaos if the lobby was open to all.

All that is inside is the restaurant, you don't get to go inside. You can walk "through" the castle but you're literally walking under it... not an inside corridor. And there are a few cute shops around there.

Tinkerbell has a room that she flies out of at the top as well...

I don't want to encourage anyone to do anything they shouldn't but I gotta confess...

About 5 years ago my DS was just dying to see the inside of the castle. We went to the podium (which was then on the outside of one of the doors that entered the castle) to aske if there were any ressies for lunch left.

This was in 1999 and things were really hopping! Those poor CMs looked so hot and flustered and they were turning away just about everyone. So I asked if we could just go in and peek inside and come right back out. The woman surprisingly said yes! And that was how DS and I got to see the inside of the castle.

We saw the lobby (no one was there to greet anyone, just lots of hungry folks waiting to be called), then we climbed the spiral stairs to peek at the diningroom. It wasn't as large as I thought it would be but very pretty. The servers were very nice and friendly about it. We even stopped and used the fancy bathrooms! LOL!

It only took about 10 minutes for us to look (we came straight back down, honest) but it satisfied DS's curiosity. It was very cool and I'm so glad we had the guts to ask.

Could you imagine how much they could charge per night if they turned that Disney apartment space into a honeymoon suite????

WHOA!!! Now that's a way to earn the benjamin's if disney would do that LOL!!!

We do enjoy looking at the tile mosaics in the tunnel under the castle, fairy tale scenes and such.

The sad part about that is that I would pay it no matter what it took lol. That would be the best!

Yes, I've known CRT to accommodate people who just wanted a peek - I was dining in there once and a newlywed couple came up, and it was the best thing I had seen all day. The bride's eyes just popped open and she yelped out, "WOW!!! Ohmygod this is SO beautiful!" That really made me laugh, so I actually went up to them and started talking to them, to congratulate them, etc. They told me that they couldn't get a PS, so the CMs just let them in the castle to take a look. I was actually VERY surprised that the CMs didn't let them in to dine, since I've heard so much about the perks that newlywed couples get (complete with bride/groom ears and all), and since it didn't seem busy at all. I suppose that could get out of hand with potentially a floodgate of non-PSers showing up, insisting newlywed privileges. Still, I was surprised at the time.

I'm not a castle person, but my friend is, so every time we go, it's a "must" to dine in the castle. Still, I think it is rather pretty inside, and it's worth a look. It's beginning to grow on me, but it takes my friend's breath away every time. She LOVES it!

Oooooooh, can you IMAGINE that???? WOW!

Kris

P.S. I love the mosaic on the walls on the inside of the castle walkthrough, and the gift shop with all the crystal is stunning.

It is definitely worth asking a CM at the restaurant podium to go up and see the inside of the castle. My sis and I asked two years ago and we were pleasantly surprised. We did not have a PS, we just wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

$2500.00 was going to be the rate when this idea was discussed in 1997/1998.

Several concerns arose:
1) Guests going outside of the castle when the park was closed
2) People doing what comes naturally in front of an open window.
3) Someone trying to get pizza delivered.

I think its worth the money to eat there. We usually go at lunch time, so it isn't as expensive. The food is great, atmosphere is wonderful and each time we've been lucky enough to be by the window looking out at Cinderella's carosel.

A question for all of you die hard Disney fans and trivia know-it-alls.

When we honeymooned at WDW in 1994 (just celebrated our 10th anniversary yesterday), we ate in the Castle, I thought it was King Stephen's or something like that??? I ordered a steak sandwich that was quite good. But isn't King Stefan Sleeping Beauty's dad... so why is it Cinderella's castle?? Was there a change at some point?

No where else but the DisBoards could I get an answer to something that I've wondered about. That's what I love about it!!

Thanks in advance to anyone that replies!!

Yes, it was called King Stephan's Banquet Hall until April 1997. No, Cinderella isn't related to King Stephan - that's Princess Aurora's (a.k.a. Briar Rose) father (from Sleeping Beauty). Sleeping Beauty's castle is in Disneyland. All other park castles, (WDW, Paris, Tokyo, and to be in Hong Kong), are Cinderella's. Except for the Paris version WDW and Tokyo are duplicates and I believe Hong Kong will be also. The castle's name has not changed. It has always be Cindrella Castle. Until the dining room's name change from King Stephan's Banquet Hall to Cindrella's Royal Table Disney has always been at a lost to expalin the disconnect for those that noticed.
