How early is "too early"?

Just my opinion, but any time between 8 am and 10 pm is fair game. It might wake me up on a Saturday morning, but that's my problem.

That is too early IMO. Back when people had better manners and knew better the usual time was no earlier than 10 am.

I would vote for this. 10 am seems reasonable

Personallly, I think 8 am is rude.

It's one thing if contractors show up at 8 am to do your roof. It's a short term thing, and not something you can control.

The guys who redid my roof started at 5 :lmao:

Around here, it's too wet to cut grass before 10 or 11 in the Summer, and not until after lunch most days this time of year.

8am is a proper morning start time for work like that. Not even a little rude IMO.

I agree with this. I don't really even understand the issue...when my neighbors mow, its not loud enough inside my house to be disruptive. :confused3 I mean I can kind of hear it, but it's outside for crying out loud! I have kids, so I'm used to actual noise, inside the house. It doesn't bother me at all.

To me that's just a summer "noise" that you get used to and it's a non-issue! The birds around here are as loud ad the mowers! Sometimes I get up early sometimes I sleep in - people work and have things to do so they mow when they can!

Our town has no noise ordinances and 8:00 a.m. is common here on weekdays, but I don't think I've ever heard it that early on a weekend.

You are on LI, right? Friends of my husband live in Merrick and there is a guy who does this on their street. Same deal, he runs a business (fencing? concrete?) from his home and the town doesn't care. Grr.

Yes, here in "sleepy little suburbia" it's a major crisis if Sonic wants to build a restaurant in a shopping center on Hempstead Turnpike, it's a disaster if the Islanders want to develop the area around the Coliseum to attract more business from the fans, but a guy running a business from his home and bringing lots of unwelcome traffic to a residential neighborhood, not a problem for our fearless leaders.

I'm a morning person so there really isn't such a thing as "too early" IMO, now "too late" is another story.

I have to say it is hot and humid here this weekend so I wouldn't blame someone for getting out at 7 or 8 am to mow. Pretty much everyone has their air on so I don't think the mower would be heard that much.

We had the windows open, haven't installed the air conditioner yet, so that's why we heard the noise.

Temperatures today are in the 70's. And he mowed his own lawn before heading out to spend the day mowing other people's lawns, so the weather has nothing to do with it anyhow.

At least he's just storing equipment here. I was told he used to have his crews come here for their assignments and the men would be sitting in everyone else's lawn. Town actually put a stop to that.

10 am is way too hot around here.....I"m mowing at 8 and it's not rude.

8am wouldn't bother me and most every town I've lived in ends noise restrictions by then if not before. Also, a guy running a mowing business out of his house wouldn't bother me unless he's dumping used oil in the back yard or storing excessive hazardous chemicals on site or something like that. If he's using his home as an actual store front, that's bothersome as well and should be stopped.

Anytime between 8 am and 9 pm is fine with me. Our noise ordinance allows it beginning 7 am, but that's a wee bit early....our neighbors generally adhere to a "polite" start time of 9 am, but I don't care if it's earlier than that.

People are always going to make noise. I try not to let it get to me. Just makes me angry, and anger only hurts me. No one else.

So at some point in the future, you won't hear the mower?

Even if it's an "every Saturday" thing, I don't think 8am is too early. Our neighborhood yard sale was today. It started at 8am. Which means by 7:30, the streets are crowded with cars and people. I guess I should consider that "rude"?

And I don't understand your "operating a business" complaint. Storing equipment doesn't bother me. I agree if it was a store front, that's inappropriate.

9:00 is considered the start of the day on weekends in our neighborhood - when the kids start calling for each other, when the mowing starts, etc.

Neighbor mowed his lawn at 8:00 this morning. He has a very powerful mower -- he's a professional landscaper.

Runs his company from his house. In violation of the local zoning ordinances. The town doesn't really care, it's just some equipment stored here.

But it was LOUD this morning.

8 am is fine, esp. in the summer when by 8 am it is hot as heck.

I am sure our HOA has some say in the times, but I am not sure of them off the top of my head.

It's just a little hard sometimes to manouver around his trucks when driving down the street. Neighborhood streets were designed in 1947 and do not accomodate the number of cars or traffic flow of the 21st century. Park a couple of trucks and you inconvenience everyone.
