How early do you start planning your stay?

thanks for the replies everyone. I guess I'll be planning our 1st anniversary trip the day we get back from our honeymoon.

Really! I suffer such withdrawal that in order to get through it I want to plan another trip right away....At least book a room at a Disney resort.

Even if the next trip is far away, just knowing that I am in the system makes it more real....and it motivates me to save,save, save!

On our first trip in Sept/Oct 2003 my husband said, "On our next trip we will...." and I dont' remember the rest because I knew I had him hooked because he said those words.... I start planning WAY before I even know when the trip will be. The trip we are taking next I started making reservations etc for in Sept 2004.

I planned both my Feb/Mar stay and my May stay about 2-3 months prior to going.

We plan 2 years in advance. Start with picking dates and do our PS for HDD.
We are down to a few resorts. Dolphin with discounts we always can find, DIS, AAA, maybe AP tickets.
Possibly if AP rates are available, DS & DD want YC, or DW likes Poly or DH wants CR.

The second the idea pops into my little pea brain, which usually occurs the moment I bring my suitcases into my house from the last vacation. Then, until the day arrives, I manage to bring the subject up EVERY DAY, some little tidbit to DH which, as you can imagine, has the potential to drive him virtually out of his mind , however, insures that I get to go on another vacation!

Once I get back May 30th, I will probably start planning my first trip of 2006 that will be sometime in January since My AP runs out Feb 24, 2006.

I've just started looking into going back October 2006. That gives me 18 months to save and plan. It's been 6 months since our last vacation and I'm going through major Disney withdrawls. Funny thing is DH wants to take a ski vacation this year in December, so that gives me 9 months to plan and I haven't even given it a second look. I'd rather not go skiing and just save the money for Disney.

Our trip last year took me almost 3 years of planning, not because I needed that much time but because we kept having to put it off another year. It was very depressing but thankfully the Dis and other boards got me through it! When we got home, I was cool up until last month when I got the fever and have been planning our upcoming ( !!!!!) trip this October ever since .

As I write this I am printing out my dining notes with all the places I'd love to eat at after reading reports on the Dis or exeriencing them last year and loving them!

There is so much we have yet to try/do and Disney is even adding new attractions such as Soarin' which I can't wait to ride! (Click on Upcoming events, then Happiest Celebration on Earth, then scrowl down to see the itty bitty pic's from the ride in CA, it looks so cool! ) lots of planning and saving of pennies to be done here! Luckily the planning is such fun .

For the past two trips, we started planning roughly six months prior, and never could get our first choice resort, and it was value season. This time, we made the effort to start planning one year out, but due to some conflicts it ended up being 18 months out (our counter was in the 500s). We got our resort, though.
