how early do you send shower invites?

Ok, so I recently got a baby shower invitation almost 6 weeks before the shower.

Yesterday I got a wedding shower invitation that is only 2 weeks from yesterday.

It seems that 3-4 weeks would be about right?. And I'm wondering if I'm an add-on to the bridal shower in two weeks?

Whats a normal amount of time in your opinion?

4-6 weeks in my circle.

4 is generally sufficient, but in some circles people are very busy and weekends book up quickly. Or 6 might be important if lots of guests have to travel.

2 seems short, but you might not be a b-lister. It could be the hostess got held up, there was a delay in printing invites, she didn't get the addresses from bride/mom, could be a million reasons why.

Enjoy the showers if you attend!

I normally do all invites at 6-8 weeks out.

Unless its a child's birthday party then I do those 3-4 weeks out.

I love to plan and have all ready picked out the dates for my sister's baby shower. March 14, 2015.

Right after xmas all invites will be finished and mailed middle of Jan.

Were you invited to the wedding? I could see being a B lister for the wedding itself, but shower invites are supposed to include everyone invited to the wedding :scratchin. I think 4 wks out for shower invites is polite.

For Weddings (except those requiring travel which I'd say even earlier) I say 6-8 weeks. Showers 3-4 weeks. Birthday parties 2 weeks. I find that if you send out invitations too early they get forgotten.

Around here, you don't get invited to the shower if you're not going to be invited to the wedding. There are no "seat-fillers" or "add-on" guests at wedding showers. Showers are usually held in catered halls or restaurants and a final head count is needed around a week or so before the event. Invitations generally go out 4-6 weeks prior to.

Baby showers seem to be a little different. Pretty much everyone who knows the mother-to-be, also knows when she is due. If it is a first baby, then the shower is a big affair that rivals wedding showers and the same timeframe applies. If it is a second or third baby, then the shower is a smaller, more intimate affair and it's possible that it gets organized at the last minute. Two week's notice for that kind of shower would not be unheard of.
