Just wondering how early the chair hogs come out to hog the chairs by the pools with their towels? Also, has anyone just thrown a towel aside because noone was around to claim it?

Chair hogs? No, I'd call those courtesy towels, feel free to take them and have a seat.

MarkRG - brilliant plan! I'll just plead ignorance. I'm very believable when pleading ignorance.:p

I think I will say that I thought the CM's put a towel on all chairs so no one would have to get up and look for one... PERFECT

MarkG, I do believe we have a resident "genius" among us!!!

I can't take all the credit- I read it on here sometime previously :p I think our resident genius BD came up with it.

Anytime that I see a chair with a towel that hasn't been occupied for 30 minutes, I take it. Heck, someone has to monitor these things--I figure that I'm the one.

I got a few bad looks for snagging someone's chair, but they were not brave enough to ask why. I think they knew it was not being used for quite some time.

I wonder why there is no sign in the pool area? They have signs for just about everything else not to do?

just point to the sign and no discussion.

I ran to get a quick breakfast for my daughter before 8Am on the day at sea. Every single chair by the Mickey pool had been saved by then! Of course only one person was actually in a chair and no one in the pool!! I took a stoll past the Goofy and Adult pool and this was not a problem.

We got to the pool around 9AM and I found a chair so I could read while my husband took my DD5 and DD3 in the pool.

The people next to me - I started to call them the chair pigs - saved 4 lounges. During my 3 hours at the pool sat in only two of them for a total of 5 minutes. I just glared at them.

I actually took a picture of the row of empty chairs which I'm planning on sending to WDW with a letter of complaint.

I have no problem with ambitious people that are on the ball who get up to get a spot they WILL USE! A family of 5 whose father had placed one shoe on one chair and another shoe on another chair (I saw him come back 1 hr later barefoot) saved 5 seats where only one would have done. What 5 yr old lays around in a lounge chair?

Almost all of the chairs were saved with some article of personal belongings so moving the towel would not work. There were books, shoes, bags etc

This behaviour was so irratating to me I started to pay attention to the number of families that showed up to use the pool looked around in surprise and disgust. Allot of families were inconvienced by such rude boorish people.

Later in the day while at guest services for another reason I did complain. The CM said they are aware it is a problem but there is not much they can do. I said have a CM do a sweep every 30 minutes and pick up unattended item. He said there was a sign up there but I looked for it later and did not see one.

Maybe if enough people complain they'll rethink the "Nothing we can do policy"

I can tell you that if I want to spend some time at a pool and I can't find space and lots of towel chairs, someone's going to find their stuff on the floor.

Good morning, MarkRG!

I think our resident genius BD came up with it.

Thank you for such a magnanimous compliment. Although I think you're confusing "genius" with superb ignorance...

Hi MaryKatesMom!

A family of 5 whose father had placed one shoe on one chair and another shoe on another chair (I saw him come back 1 hr later barefoot) saved 5 seats

How many feet did this guy have???

Seems as though it's getting to the point where you might want to bring a lounge chair to your cabin the night before...

I didn't think they allowed pets on the cruise! If I see a "chair hog" I will be speakin' my mind, as I'm rather allergic to the dander. ;) It must of takin' a lot of hoggy snacks to train the hogs to do this.

I also think it's sweet of them to lay a towel on the chair for me...what a nice thing to do!

I actually thought and thought I saw.....CM's in the early morning putting towels on chairs around the pool. I would assume that were a courstey and up for anyone to take.

I take offense to the people who lay all their personal items on chairs. If there is just a white DCL towel on a chair and no one around I am taking the chair!!!

He pushed 5 chairs together, overlapped towels then placed his shoes at even lengths between the towels. I'm thinking he was an engineer.:p

I really wouldn't have been so irate if the chairs were occupied at some point but it seemed the possesion of the chair was the goal not the use of the chair.

How about this idea? Have a CM at 7:30AM really place towels on each chair. What do you think?

Or an inconsiderate cabanna boy...

You know, I belong to a pool club here in my town and I see the same thing. I have often wondered why they don't just offer 'cubbies'. I understand that people want a place to put their shoes and towels and they want to be able to find it easily when they return. That is why they throw the stuff on a chair. But why don't pools offer cubbies, like those storage units at McDonald's Playgrounds, for people to store a towel and shoes. Then they won't have to use a chair they don't need for storage.

I don't swim, so I sit and watch my kids and keep their things, but if I were to swim with them, I would use a chair to put our stuff too, where else would we put it? Pools (all pools) should offer alternative storage space.

Although I have never seen a sign, there IS a notice about not saving chairs in the Navigators. I simply make sure to bring a spare Nav. with me (I am the type who would remove a chair hog's articles with no compunction). That way, if the hog would dare to squeal, I would simply whip out my handy-dandy Nav. to confront them. But I've never run into this circumstance because we usually don't sit out on the chairs around the whirlpool...our butts are parking in the whirlpool. However, I HAVE played "whirlpool cop" when the kids try to invade it.

I am one of those who can never find a chair, no matter when I get to the pool. My DD is too young to allow to be near the water without supervision and we frequent the Mickey Pool area.

I spend my time at the pool with one eye on my DD and the other scanning the rows of chairs, hoping to catch someone as they prepare to leave before someone else does. This wandering cross-eyed mode rarely leads to any success. One time, I repeat, one time, I was successful and secured a chair from a departing family. I was so proud! Although there were several chairs vacated, I limited myself to one because I rationalized that when and if my DD exited the pool she could very well share my chair, and that is what she did.

The only time I left the chair was when my DD danced her way over and informed me she needed to go potty. Now mind you, I waited patiently for that chair, thought I had been considerate, and was truly using the chair, not just using it as a clothes horse. We were gone for as little time as it takes to go to the potty just inside the doors. When we returned a family had moved not only my towel, but my book, sunglasses and water bottle off of my chair and had set up camp. The husband had the decency to look rather sheepish, but the woman actually looked defiant. When I recovered from the awkwardness of the situation I said to the husband that we had just gone to the potty and I was surprised to see they had moved my things in such a short time. But since we had planned on leaving shortly anyway, they were welcome to stay, if they would please hand me my things. It seemed the most gracious thing to do even though it did cut short our time at the pool.

All I'm asking is: those of you who would move someone's things, please take time to see if they are truly abusing the chair policy. Those of you who save chairs all day and inconvenience others, please give me a break!

Sorry this is so long, but it has bothered me for some time now.
Maybe next cruise I'll make up little signs (just in case I get a chair), "WENT TO POTTY", "IN LINE FOR FOOD", "TAKING A QUICK PICTURE OF CHILD IN POOL". What do you think?

How about making extra copies and highlighting that part and then leaving it on the offending chairs?

Sandygirl, good point.

You know, I haven't had a lot of problem with this, but we usually try to get a table in the shade instead of a chair right by the pool. We seem to be able to do this most of the time. But my girls are 9 now, so I just need to be near by where they know where I am and where I can check on them from time to time. If I had a younger child, I would want a chair right by the pool. Like I said, I wish they would offer storage cubes for people to put shoes and towels in them so they didn't have to use the chairs. Using chairs for 'storage' is common at all the pools I have ever been to; where else are people suppose to put their things while the swim? I'm really not sure.
