How does the water taste onboard???

We are cruising for the first time ever in December. We are wondering how the water tastes coming out of the tap?

We drink alot of water and I am wondering if we will need to bring/buy bottled water?

DCL sells Evian but the ship water tastes fine.

I'm a big bottled water drinker and we have filtered water at home. What they have on board tastes great. We bring our own sport bottles and fill them up on deck 9 before heating into town or on an excursion. Works great!

Thnaks to all for you quick replies. We drink the tap here at home (Fairfax County Water Authority).

I happen to like the ater in New York City. Orlando's water is just so-so.

We will have sports bottles to fill.

Are you serious are joking??? I've never been to NYC, but am planning a trip for next month and was just wondering if I should bring bottled water.

As a frame of reference, I drink tap water at home and prefer it to bottled water, but have a hard time with Orlando water and can only drink it if it's ice cold.

I was going to post over on the Community board, but we're also looking for the best NY style pizza in NYC. A wonderful bagel place would be great, too.

That's the TRUTH!!! I just ordered a case of the evian water when I got on the ship and it was delivered to my room within 30 minutes and I kept it in the cooler.

Actually, Oregon has the best water, but MD has pretty good water. I don't think it's the NYC water that is the problem for New Yorkers.

From what I've read here on the boards the first 2 days the water is from port canaveral and afterthat reverse osmosis. I am from Brooklyn and the water in NY is the Best!!!
I've been here in Orlando since 86 and can't drink the tap water.It's not as bad as south Fl but there is a difference.
The water on the ship is fine. I had some lemons in the room and used them in the water.

I'd love to know where this rumour has been started. The ship does not take ANY water onboard from land, except bottled to sell you later. All the ship's water is produced thru a reverse osmosis process directly from seawater. That is something I have not read on the boards, but found out in person, right from the ship's engineer. I have no objections to drinking the ship's water. If you're particular, the water at the deck 9 stations is double filtered.

As for soda, it is also free at the end of the buffet lines and at the deck 9 station right next to the Mickey Pool. You're welcome to bring either onboard, but I see no need to do so anymore, short of you wanting a particular soda product other than Coke products. There are plenty of cups with lids available at the deck 9 station so you can fill them and take them elsewhere. The only place you pay for soda now is at the bars.

As my wife, wdwlvr, said above, for our most recent of 6 cruises, the 10 day, we brought sport bottles, packed them full with ice, topped with water and had drinking water for our excursions every day that stayed cold for the duration of the day's travel. Just make sure they are wide mouth ones so you can get the ice in.

That would probably be me. In a Q&A session with the Captain and the senior officers on the Magic in December, 2001, the Captain (Henry Anderson, IIRC), said that they did fill up with water from Port Canaveral, since it was cheaper to get water from the port than to make it at sea. It is possible that they have changed things since then, but that was the word 3 years ago.

I got my answer last year, so looks like they've changed that policy sometime in between. Probably got guest complaints at the water quality changing. I do remember some complaints of the water quality being all over the place before, why I asked him.

Which is actually a good thing for all of us to remember as we read things on these boards. This can be an amazing source of information, but even if what you read here is 100% true, it may change between now and when you actully go on your trip.

We bring a case of water onboard, no problem. We also bring wine for our stateroom and diet ginger ale which is what I like to drink (and not available at the soda station). We always have a car so we stop at the grocery store on the way to the port.

Ships water is probably the purist you'll ever drink, and I grew up with fresh well water. I drink chlorinated tap water now, it's a step down. I do keep a bottle of water in the car, but I must be missing something about bottled water, it always tastes like the plastic bottle to me.

My experience with NYC is limited to passing thru JFK. That was way back in 1976 and I was a bit put off by having to pay $10 for a cab ride to get from the domestic to the international terminals. I know it's a big airport, but have they put in a tram yet between terminals? I deal with folks in NYC daily by phone and e-mail for my work. Most of them are looking to get out of there, a lot of hoping to be able to telecomute. Of course they always choke when I ask them to pick up a hot dog for me from one of the street vendors!!!!
