How does the E:E preview for AP and DVC work?

Do you just show up and flash your AP or DVC card or what?

I'm both DVC and AP and will miss the preview by a couple of days--we arrive Feb. 2. We have done many AP previews and what the CMs look for on the APs is that it is current. You would be surprised how many folks try to use expired APs to do the previews. For the big shows (like Phiharmagic) the CMs let us take in extras, but when we did Mission Space, the CMs were very strict and only let the AP holder go in. Since hubby was not an AP holder (was a CM then) they did let him ride MS with my AP since I passed on it and my grandson (an AP holder) didn't want to go by himself. Whether the CMs let the DVC and AP holders take a guest, that will be at the discretion of the CMs checking IDs. Hopefully for us, there will be general public soft opennings while we are there Feb. 2-10. If not, we'll catch it during our late April trip.

My son will have an AP but will not want to ride. Do you think they might let my friend who will be with us go in his place?

I checked Allears. Their writeup for the AP preview says:

This special Passholder preview event is limited to current Passholders only.

The DVC preview says:

Each Member who presents his/her Disney Vacation Club Member ID during the sneak "peak" event may enjoy this preview with as many as three Guests.

So from this it looks like passholders can't bring guests but DVC members can. No idea if they'll let your friend substitute for your son if the friend doesn't have an AP.

The passholder previews we have been to the CMs were very strict with AP-ers having to have their card, an no guests allowed. (I don't have any experience as a DVC member.)
Guests will try all sorts of stories to bring guests in, or the whole family when no one owns an AP. CMs will flat out refuse entry to non AP-ers. It happens all the time, one after another.

If DVC preview rides were limited to members holding blue DVC cards in their names, it is possible that one member of a family would be able to ride and the others would not.

It's more likely that entire families will hold APs.
