How does the baby know....

when it is night time?? I know I should not be complaining, and I am very, very greatful, but DS will sleep fine by himself (in a co-sleeper) at night. However, during the day as soon as I set him down he is awake. Don't get me wrong, I am so pleased that he sleeps good at night (the baby sleeps 6 hours straight at 7 weeks old, my toddler wakes up every 4 hours at 28 months old), but it makes it really hard for me to get anything done (like DIS ) during the day. I know there is nothing I can do about it, but I just don't understand how he knows the difference

I don't know how he knows it is night, just count your blessings! My 18 month old is getting the last of his molars in, and wakes up EVERY hour!! He also only takes an hour nap during the day! I fear I'm going to quickly go gray at the ripe old age of 28!

The same way they know when it's dinnertime for you.
Since they don't eat anything but bottle or breastmilk, how do they associate food cooking smells with eating? I think I ate dinner with an infant on my lap until he could sit up and get in the high chair, and then a year later, DD came along, and started all over again. I have had 3 and they all did this, as well as every one of my friends.

Have you tried wearing him in a sling? That would allow you to get things done while keeping him close to you, and a lot of babies drift off to sleep as soon as they get in it.

How does he know? The differance is the co-sleeper, at night your there right? It is somtimes easy to fix this. put a t-shirt on under your regular shirt and wear ir for awhile and when he is ready to go down, use that as his blanket. You just might trick him a little bit. It worked for mine.

LOL, he doesn't know. His schedule just happens to be convenient right now.

All that baby knows is you and the other people that love him. Whether it's dark outside or not, he won't notice that for a long time.

IMO, 1st babies we cater to. Subsequent babies, we know better what NOT to do.

I always rocked my first DS to sleep. He now (almost 5) will go to sleep, but wakes up and sneaks in our room later OR will procrastinate coming downstairs several times until I go to bed and he'll just come with me.

My baby (13mo's) no problems.

It took our daughter 7 months to finally figure out the difference between days and nights. We thought that she would never sleep through the night. As a teenager, we are now faced with a different problem. Getting her up in the morning in time to get ready for school.

Sort of reminds me of one of my favorite sayings:

We spend the first two years of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk, then the next sixteen years telling them to sit down and shut up.

I agree! We had the same thing happen with DD (we co-clept/Breastfed.)

Also make sure he is totaly asleep before you lay him down. I think I read some where that it takes 15 minutes for them to be in that deep sleep.
