How does Scott Peterson pay his high priced lawyer? I can't imagine Peterson and his family have the kind of money this guy usually gets. I'm assuming that Mark G. is doing it for self promotion and will write a book or be a very high priced public speaker in the future and that's where he'll rake in the dough. He and his law firm have to be putting in MAJOR time for this very public case and I can't see them making money just off the Petersons can you?

I may be wrong, but I believe that Scott Peterson's parents are paying the lawyer.

I thought he was doing it for free. I saw something about it when he first got him and they were talking about how his family were regular middle class people.

It would seem to me since Mark Garagos is such a media hound that he may have taken it on pro bono.

I've been following this case since Day 1.

Scott Petersons' parents ARE paying Mark Geragos for his defense. They've "reportedly" took out a second mortgage on their house and they also own a packaging company in San Diego.

If they are paying him, I'm sure it is much less than what he gets from his rich clients don't you think? Don't you think the hourly rate he got from Michael Jackson was much higher than Peterson?

It's been reported that MG is charging SP parents, $1 million to defend him.

dt,
I thought that it was "pro bono" also? The amazing amount of publicity that this case is generating must make a lot of lawyers fight for this case.

I think he's defending him for nothing. The money Scott's parents got by taking out a loan against one of their homes is money that I believe is for the testing that needs to be done and to pay specialists to testify. Mark would take the loss on his pay(possibly for a book deal?), but he didn't want to come up with all the extra money too.

I think that Mark is doing it for free but the 1m is for the firm and expert witness testimony. The lawyer can go pro bono but I am sure that they will still want something for all the time put in by the researchers and paralegals etc.
