I've always wondered that. I'm not looking for the job, but are there certain requirements. Do you have to a total Disney nut? I know its volunteer, but is it done in shifts? Do you have to stay up all night? Do webmasters get paid?

Thats it. I have always been curious. It seems like a thankless job but this board has some wonderful dedicated mods.

I believe they do a straw poll and whoever loses gets to be a moderator.;)

Unless you've been sentenced to a special place in Purgatory. In which case you become a moderator of the DB.

If being a total Disney nut was a requirement I would not be one.

Anne, I wonder myself and I've been here a while. I think that you have to know the right people and be in the right place at the right time but I could be wrong. Does anyone know?

You have to have a million and one posts and tell other to play nice?

Seems like all of the moderators have been around here for a very long time.

We're paid in gruel and pebbles, we're chained to our computers and Alex has the only set of keys, and we're on caffeine IVs when we're on the late night shifts.

 :jester: :hyper:

I think it is interesting that so many people have asked this question, but has anyone ever been given an answer? Not that anyone is owed an answer. ;)

I was invited by Pete Werner. He did not explain to me why I was chosen to be a moderator.

I don't think I actually know if there are "certain requirements".

I don't work a shift. If I'm online and I can check the boards I moderate, then I do it.

I am unpaid and I have no idea if the webmasters are paid or not.

That's the best answer I can offer to this question.

I have a question... What if you're a moderator of the CB and you're visiting the Resort Board and you see a post/s there and should be edited or close the thread, can you do that or do you just take care of the board/s given to you? Am I making any sense here...maybe cause it's getting kind of late here...

This is my take on it ....

When the WMs think another moderator is needed, they look for people who are generally knowledgeable on a certain board, and hopefully have certain qualities that include, but aren't limited to: helpful, friendly, basically non-confrontational, even-minded, willing to share information, willing to start new threads or participate in them, enjoy being part of the DIS community, etc. etc.

A Webmaster will ask then ask if someone is interested in helping to moderate that board.

Since so many of us love Disney, and/or the DIS community, it's fun to help out. Sometimes it can be challenging, but in the end it's fun.

Moderators moderate their own boards. If I see a post on another board, I use the "Report post to Moderator" button. :)

Thanks for starting this thread! I've always wondering how BARRY HOM got to be a Moderator (and goodness gracious a Webmaster now!) since he likes to INSTIGATE fights (with me at least...lol) and hit on various ladies on the Universal boards. ;)
