My husband and I are attempting to purchase 200 points at AKLV. I say attempting because our guide has not returned two calls over a three day period. Anyhow, how long does it take for the paperwork to go through and when will the initial points be available for use?

Thanks for the answers...maybe he'll share his commission with you folks!

once you put the deposit down you can make reservations. If your buying AKV your trip has to be after a certain date outlined in the contract because its still being built. (last I heard somewhere around jan/feb 2008)

You can book AKV right now in the Jambo house....AKL...

I believe if you buy direct through Disney....your points are available
within the day.

Yes, you can book immediately, but DVC Mater is correct that for most AKV purchases, the stay cannot occur until after a certain date. Points currently being sold are attached to the rooms still under construction. They are scheduled to open around the end of January.

The DVC system effectively facilitates all members sharing timeshare units that are part of the program. I personally own part of a unit somewhere at Saratoga Springs, but I can use my ownership to share someone else's room at the BoardWalk or AKV or even another unit at SSR. However, in the case of AKV purchases, since the units are still under construction, a new owner cannot begin sharing someone else's unit until THEIR unit is part of the program.

The next wave of AKV rooms is slated to open around January 29th. A new buyer can BOOK their trip almost immediately, but in all likelihood the stay may not actually commence until sometime after 1/29.

Please remember that DVC is a 24/7 operation with business hours longer than 9-5. I have heard that the Guides often work four 10-hour days per week. It's also SOP for Guides to take turns sailing on the Disney Cruises to give the DVC presentations there (which can keep them out of the office for more than a week) and some even take vacation / holiday time around this time of year.

I'm sure he'll get back to you as soon as he returns to the office.

This is true only if the AKV unit you purchase is ready for occupancy. The points will be available within the day, but they cannot be used to make a reservation anywhere that will start before the unit you purchased is ready for occupancy.

AFAIK, Disney has sold out of the points associated with the finished AKV units. That is why they are expediting construction.

For example, if the unit you bought won't be ready for occupancy until January 15, 2008, you can't make a reservation for a stay that will occur before that (doesn't matter which resort you are reserving). But you could call now and make a reservation that will start after that.

I think DVC Mater is right about the dates - more AKV units in Jambo house are expedited to be ready for occupancy sometime in the January/February 2008 time frame.

Although if you get developer points they can be used before the occupancy date of your villa, and also borrowing points from next years UY is also an option :)

The Developer's Points may be an option but borrowing is not. The restriction is not based upon Use Year, it has to do with the occupancy of the unit. A new owner cannot participate in the program until the unit that THEY own is open and ready for occupancy.

Initially our unit was due to open in Sept, and I booked an Oct stay mainly on Developer Points but one night had to be waitlisted and as 07 points banked borrowed from 08. During this process our paperwork was messed up so it all got redone and the unit was changed and the occupancy date went to Dec. But our booking went through fine!
