How does getting luggage transferred on a split stay work?

I just knew there must of been such a service offered by the Disney Resorts, but we had a different experience last year at the Polynesian. We had a split stay and when asked if they offered a service that could transfer our luggages to our next resort (Animal Kingdom), they (concierge and valet) both told us.. not really! They suggested us taking a taxi or the bus?! Since we didn't want to pay 30-40$ just to get to AK, we had no choice but to transport all of our luggages with us in the bus.. I'm not sure if the cast members just weren't aware of this service or the Polynesian itself doesnt offer it, but I just thought it didn't make sense and how absurd a Deluxe Resort couldn't offer such service!

Now, reading this post and knowing there IS actually such service, makes me upset that we even had to go through all that trouble transferring from one resort to another.. :sad2:
Flat out bizarre. From the bad information about luggage transfer to your taking your bags on the bus.

That is awful... I always just call bell services from my room. I had heard you couldn't bring luggage on Disney transportation (buses, monorail * boats) except DME.

We didn't thing of calling bell services and just thought concierge or valet would of been as much of a help on this matter. We'll know from now on to call bell services!
Also, we didn't even know we weren't allowed to bring luggages on Disney transportations, but I just knew it wasn't right.. Luckily, the bus drivers were very helpful to us.

I'm pretty sure you aren't allowed to bring your luggage onto Disney transportation, so it is strange that they told you that was the only way to go besides a taxi:confused3
Yes, very strange!! We weren't even aware that we weren't allowed to bring luggages onto Disney transportations, I just knew it couldn't be right..

Just a note of caution: We transferred from POP to POR and they sent our bags to POFQ instead. We had to call and wait almost an hour to get it straight...at 10pm. I had a kid in the tub with no clothes to put on after a LOOOOONG day in the park.

So, be sure to say RIVERSIDE a bunch of times lol

That is completely bizarre!

Especially since the buses don't allow luggage. So it's even weirder that just a year ago you were allowed to take the bags on the bus. (And what bus? They don't have inter-resort buses so did you have to go to a park or Disney springs first to transfer?)

But FYI the taxi shouldn't have cost even $30. We went from MK (parking lot) to AKL for something like $12.

Weird question...did you ask concierge and valet in person, or did you call them?

That's right! We had to go to Disney Springs and then, transfer to AKL.. Rethinking about it, irks me that we even had to go through that!!

We were told by valet that it would cost us that much.. maybe because we needed a van for our family of 5 and all of our luggages? Or have we been misinformed, again?! :worried:

I went to the concierge at the front desk, the lady wasn't to sure they offered that service and told me about the taxi and then, referred me to the valet outside which also told be about the taxi and the buses.. I just felt like nobody knew what I was talking about! It was strange..

Ikr?! Reading all of your comments, makes it even more mind boggling that we were that badly informed!

It sounds to me like the concierge and valet thought they wanted to transfer people with their luggage to another resort. Luggage can be transferred through bell services, but the people need to take buses/taxis. There must have been a communication breakdown somewhere!

Massive communication breakdown on their end. Wild. I'm so sorry.

I asked if you called because calling "front desk" gets you an offsite call center (possibly out of state). Wondered if hitting concierge and valet buttons did the same.

I can almost accept that 1 person wouldn't know (and that's a stretch) but to talk to several who didn't know? Amazing to me. It's way too late now to do much about it but it would have been great to have been able to let management know since 1 of the first things taught to anyone working at a Disney resort is that they offer luggage services. There just is no excuse for not knowing, even if it's your first hour on the job

I wish it would of been a communication breakdown... but I asked them in person and specifically asked if they had a service that could transport our luggages to our next resort whilst we go to the parks and those were the answers we got!

Exactly our thoughts!! How can two different person give us the same information (about the taxi) and not know about the luggage service!?
If we would've known about this information sooner after our trip, management would've heard about it for sure!

Thank you all for your comments! Makes me feel better knowing there IS a luggage transfer service and that Disney didn't let us down on this service afterall! lol

Last week we had 1 night at All Star Music -about 10am we brought our bags out front (where Magical Express drops you off). Gave them our 3 bags, clearly tagged Port Orleans French Quarter and they gave us a tag with a bar code on it.

Took the bus to Disney Springs, had lunch and shopped, and took the boat to POFQ.

Checked at the valet inside, they scanned our tag and said the bags were on the way. Went swimming (planned ahead and brought our swim suits with us). When we were done swimming (about 4) we called bag services from our room phone and our bags were delivered to the room.

We had the misfortunate timing of having a split stay at CSR and POR during Hurricane Matthew. Our transfer day was the day Disney closed early before the night the hurricane hit. Bell services accidentally sent our luggage to Jambo House instead of POR. Due to the hurricane, no one was allowed to transfer our luggage for two days!

Thankfully, we talked to a wonderful manager at POR. He asked us clothing sizes and what we needed for toiletries to get by. He went shopping in the store at POR and picked out several sets of clothing, toiletries, food, and even a bottle of wine! After the store opened the next day, we went in to price the items, which totaled over $300!!

So I guess it turned out well in the end! He definitely got some REALLY good feedback at Guest Services! pixiedust:

We had our bags transferred from BLT to BCV yesterday. The bellman told us to expect them to be at BC after 4:00. We got into our room at 3:30 and our bags were at the resort when I called for them. It's a wonderful perk!
