How does character dining work?

We signed up for a character dining breakfast. How exactly does that work? Do the characters just hang out at the restaraunt or what?
Also we bought it along with our hotel, and shuttle through GetAwayToday.com. They sent us the tickets for the shuttle, the hotel confirmation and a receipt thing of what we got. On the receipt it has a note at the bottom that to pick up tickets for Character dining at the front gate. Do we not have to make a reservation or what? I'm so lost.

Hi!

You will need to make reservations for your character meal(s). You can do that up to 60 days in advance.

When you get to the character dining restaurant, they'll seat you and you'll be able to get your food at the buffet (unless you order off of the menu @ Storytellers). The characters will rotate between tables, so they will come to you. We generally spend about 90 minutes eating and visiting with the characters.

You can make a reservation up to 2 months in advance (so reservation for an August 16 meal could be made on June 16)
